Mitt Takes the Gloves Off

Yesterday, Mitt Romney went into Iowa radio host Jan Mickelson’s studio for a conversation about politics. At least it should have been about politics. Instead, Mickelson decided he wanted to grill Romney on the Mormon church and Mormon theology. (I also thought Mickelson’s comments on politics, namely that the President should overrule the Supreme Court when in the President’s opinion the Court oversteps its bounds, were a tad on the screwy side as well.)

Mickelson’s station, WHO, had a video recorder on the governor that was recording his off-air comments, something that Romney was unaware of. On the air, Mickelson stated that according to Mormon theology, Romney should have been excommunicated from the Mormon Church because he was once pro-choice. Off the air, Romney tried to gently tell Mickelson that he didn’t know what he was talking about. Although I’ve never heard even a snippet of Mickelson’s show before today, I bet Mickelson holding forth on something he knows nothing about happens on a not infrequent basis. The off air exchange (that once again Romney didn’t know was being taped) was at times heated. WHO today posted the footage on its website.

Wow! THAT is the most ridiculous..and wrong...generalization I’ve heard in a while.

Go out on the street and ask 10 random people to tell you the first thing that comes to mind when you say "Mitt Romney."

Then tell me how wrong I am.

LOL! I don’t believe I expressed an opinion one way or the other about the LDS but I think I will now. The Mormon Church is the nineteenth century version of Scientology.

That doesn’t mean that’s ALL they know about him. I was pointing out your hyperbolic generalization.

Hezbollah thinks Mitt was awesome too. Frankly, for FReepers to continue supporting Mitt Romney after he praised a terrorist organization as a “role model for the USA” indicates to me that there are other loyalties in play (as opposed to mere like/dislike of a candidate and his policies).

“Romney is easily the smartest of all the candidates coupled with amazing organizational abilities.”

Yes, PJ - Romney is sooo smart that he has 8 positions on any issue /sarc. Fellow flip flopper from MA, John Kery, could manage only half that number.

I am so proud of Mitt and have said all along that LDS would not imposed their believe on others but a true LDS would practiced their faith according the 11the Article of Faith

11 We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.

You need to scroll up Working VIDEO? it was working before????
VIDEO GO MITT, GOD BLESS YOU!:)

Jan Mickelson was the one being deceptive because he knew the what he did was not Kosher, he should apologize to Mitt, and Mitt came through a forthright gentleman!

That actually looks like the pro-Hezbollah candidate, Mitt Romney. I hear he gives pretzels a complex as he takes numerous contradictory stances on any given issue. At last count, Mitt has twisted his neck (doesn’t he have the backbone to stand by his beliefs?) on abortion, gun control and “assault weapons,” Hezbollah, homosexual marriage, and critters.

You’re right, CP, that there are some desperate fetishists here - the difference is you should probably be looking among your own ranks.

Somebody, please tell me why it makes any more difference that he’s a Mormon than a Presbyterian or an Episcopalian or whatever. I hate to be naive, but I don’t understand.

Full disclosure: I like Mitt, and I don't care that he's LDS.

BUT

If Mitt Romney is the GOP nominee (and not before), the MSM is going to DROWN you in understanding the LDS movement, WHY it is different than creedal Christianity, and (I venture to say) when you know more about the LDS, you will like it (and Mitt) less than you do today.

Yeah but...

When you think about it, all religions (except perhaps your own) have some hare-brained notions. The Muslims are a special case, as they have amply demonstrated during the past few years.

But the Mormons certainly seem to be peaceful. I've never been harrassed by their proselytizing or anything else. Once on a plane, leaving Utah, the person sitting next to me said that I shouldn't be drinking Coca Cola, but that was the end of it. Not much of a harrassment, and I could have appreciated his concern so long as he didn't press the point.

So their beliefs a goofy--so are lots of the beliefs of mainstream religions. My mother was raised Baptist; she had some really weird beliefs. (Sorry all you Baptists out there.) And what about the Episcopalians (I'm one!)!

I still don't get it. I don't see the difference between a cult and a mainstream religion.

I think the important thing is whether you can believe that there is a seperation between religion and state and that the goofy ideas of one's religion won't interfere with everybody else.

In the case of Muslims, this is a big issue, because the religion itself is imperialist and does not seperate dogma from government. Furthermore, basic dogma includes such things as taqiyya, kitman, dhimmitude, and capital punishment for apostasy, insulting the religion, and perhaps failing to convert.

Mormonism doesn't seem to be anything like that.

Thanks for the help. Sorry I'm still a bit dense.

Mitt Romney is the biggest deceiver in American politics today,

That's obviously not a true statement.

Nice try but Mitt was talking about good will towards those in need and I am sure Mitt is sorry that he used Hezbollah, but his focus was not on evil it was about helping another so they can learn how to fish for them selves!

And yet Thompson was hardly noticed during his senate career.

It can be said that the most noteworthy thing that Thompson did during his Senate career, the one thing that anyone can remember him doing, was his tremendous support for the McCain-Feingold-Thompson CFR legislation.

I simply addressed a misrepresentation of Romney’s record similar to many that can be seen on this thread.

Yes, you have posted several misrepresentations of Romney's record in this thread. Thanks for pointing that out.

Of course Jan Mickelson was deceitful and underhanded. But that's okay, you see, because "Mitt ain't Christian." So, deceitful behavior is okay as long as it's used to try to trip him up.

Many liberals and so-called conservative Christians (especially of the "southron" variety) despise Romney for his beliefs and the life he has lived.

Liberals despise him because they rightly suspect he will not implement their family-destructive social liberal agenda.

Conservative Christians despise him because, well, . . . . why DO they despise him? Is it because he has been perfectly faithful in marriage to only one wife and (as opposed to McCain, Gingrich, Giuliani, Thompson). Is it because he doesn't have a second wife young enough to be his daughter, a woman with ten times the energy as her doddering husband and who is more ambitious for political power than any woman since Hillary Clinton circa 1992 (Thompson)?

Is it because he doesn't have rebellious (Giuliani) or spoiled (Thompson) children who are a constant risk of embarrassment for their fathers who were only minimally engaged in their upbringing? Is it because he created hundreds of thousands of jobs in the private sector and worked miracles (Salt Lake Olympics) by investing wisely the great talents that God was blessed him with?

Nah, it's because "He ain't Christian" enough for the religious right.

I can think of many charities (barring some muslims ones; they are mostly allied to terror causes) to use as examples “of winning hearts and minds.” At this moment, there are Islamic reform movements that are trying to accomplish the same thng that Hezbollah does but with a message of tolerance and anti-Sharia teachings. Romney’s praise of Hezbollah is counterproductive and is probably, at this very moment, receiving praiseworthy coverage in the pro-Islamist Arab media.

"So their beliefs a goofy"

========================

I'm sorry but I consider following and perpetuating an obvious lie to be more serious than just "goofy". Other than that mormons are decent, nice, hardworking folks.

What separates them from the mainstream is, as I attempted to explain, their origin and extra biblical Joseph Smith connection.

To the uninitiated or casual observer it could appear to be a subtlety, but their departure is quite extreme.
