I'm sorry but I consider following and perpetuating an obvious lie to be more serious than just "goofy". Other than that mormons are decent, nice, hardworking folks.
What separates them from the mainstream is, as I attempted to explain, their origin and extra biblical Joseph Smith connection.
To the uninitiated or casual observer it could appear to be a subtlety, but their departure is quite extreme.
Like you, I believe the distinctive Mormon doctrines to be false. However, they are not lies if the people who preach them believe them to be true.
To assert that that they are "perpetuating an obvious lie," you must have some way of knowing that they don't believe what they preach. How do you know this? Do you possess the Divine ability to know what's in a man's heart?
