By DEB RIECHMANN The Associated Press Friday, August 3, 2007; 3:01 PM

WASHINGTON -- President Bush invited representatives of major industrialized and developing countries to a climate change summit in September at the same time that the United Nations is holding a similar conclave.

"In recent years, science has deepened our understanding of climate change and opened new possibilities for confronting it," Bush said in his invitation letter Friday, asking other nations to take part in discussing a long-term strategy for reducing greenhouse emissions.

new possibilities for confronting it . . . reducing greenhouse emissions.

Seems like the same old jive.

Bush wants to bring India, China and other fast-growing countries to the negotiating table so they are part of the solution, not the problem.

We need to pull theses countries (mainly China) into this process or we'll end up completely dependent on them for all of our manufactured goods. The playing field is not fair.

I hate to say this but I’m thinking of buying one of those “ Only X Days Left” Bush calendars. The man has totally gone wobbly.

My initial thought exactly! If I’m not mistaken it’s on “awe xxxx” that wipes out all existing “adda boys”. Going into the ‘08 elections too...why not just turn us around and stab us from the front.

I call a spade a spade when I see one. Politically, the Global Warming Farse is an easy domestic poke stick in the dems eyes for ‘08. I know he’s brought this up before, but to go forward promiting discussion is beyond reason, unless he simply doesn’t care what happens in ‘08. I’ve about reached that conclusion anyway.

Relax about it.

Talk doesn’t hurt, might even put some pressure on India and China.

Besides, I tend to smile on anything of which john kerry is critical.

Global warming hasnothing to do with trade.

We don’t need to “pull them in”. We need to change our trade policies to wok in interest of all Americans, not just financial traders and Walmart.

lol :) I’m relaxed. Basically I view Global Warming as a terrbly bad joke that got way out of hand. I just can’t find any positive in the propaganda effects, even when looking at it from your angle. I understand your logic, but I still think the returns are net negative. We lose people’s ability to think and reason on this issue, and that’s always dangerous (lol).

Hang on boys! Bush is simply getting everyone together and seeing what they are going to do now that the Kyoto Protocol has proven to be a failure just as he told them it would be.

"The summit will address "life after" the Kyoto Protocol expires in 2012."

“Global warming hasnothing to do with trade.”

Actually, I believe it can be a tool to control trade. If I wanted to control trade, I’d control as many aspects of the manufacturing & supply elements as I could. If I can’t directly effect one part (supply), then I’d try and control another (manufacturing via Environment).

I do agree with you on not pulling others into this garbage though.

Talk doesn’t hurt, might even put some pressure on India and China.

Pressure to do what? Reduce greenhouse gases? Why? GREENHOUSE GASES ARE NOT A PROBLEM! Everyone should read the latest scientific literature. Greenhouse gas emission is normal - the vast majority of it being water vapor and CO2 produced by the ocean. The fraction produced by manmade causes is just that - a fraction - and current literature indicates that its impact as a precursor to global warming, vs. an effect, has been VASTLY overestimated in computer models.

One of the key premises of this idiotic conference is fundamentally flawed - i.e. that reducing greenhouse gas emissions (e.g. CO2) should be pursued. It should not, and as such this conference is a farce.

It’s August. It’s 85 degrees outside. The Red Sox have an 8 game lead over the Yankees. So what’s the problem?
