Reporter Apologizes for Michael Vick Rape Comment

PITTSBURGH — A newspaper reporter who said Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick would have been "better off raping a woman" than being charged with dogfighting has apologized and will no longer appear on the local sports panel TV show where he made the remark.

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reporter Paul Zeise made the comments Sunday night on the "Sports Showdown" show on KDKA-TV, a CBS affiliate. He was disagreeing with another panelist who said NFL commissioner Roger Goodell should suspend Vick for the rest of the season because he was indicted on federal dogfighting charges July 17.

"It's really a sad day in this country when somehow ... Michael Vick would have been better off raping a woman if you look at the outcry of what happened," Zeise said. "Had he done that, he probably would have been suspended for four games and he'd be back on the field. But because this has become a political issue, all of a sudden the commissioner has lost his stomach for it."

Zeise apologized Monday.

"I regret the poor choice of analogies I used to characterize a professional athlete's legal situation," Zeise said.

Heck, if Vick had done something like force an underage girlfriend to have an abortion, nobody would say ANYTHING about it. He’d still have all his endorsements. He’d still be an NFL poster boy. In fact, the DNC or the Rainbow-PUSH coalition would probably give him a high-profile job after his NFL days were over.

The thing is....I bet she's right.

Let me explain...it appears that in today's mainstream society that human life is secondary to animal life to many.

Isn’t it hypocritical to be critical of the behavior of a professional THUG, when that THUG is already being overpaid to reward his THUGHOOD?

What the hell does one expect?

Everyone who pays to watch Thug Ball is an enabler....
High Schools, Universities and “professional sports” are more interested in building winning teams of semi literate immoral thugs than building winning characters..

Look closely at the what has become of basketball, baseball and football. Do we really want to pay money for our children to follow these THUGS?

Do we really want to have our tax dollars go to build venues for these Thugs to perform within?

Maybe. Some consider it equal, which I also find appalling.

But one reason the reporter's statement might be true is that crimes like rape or domestic violence are usually, in fact almost ALWAYS, he said she said. By their nature these crimes rarely have more than two people involved.

The allegations against Vick are different. There is a huge amount of physical evidence as well as at least FIVE testifying witnesses.

It’s not injustice and if you can’t articulate yourself better than by making absurd analogies it probably would be best to keep your mouth shut because you do nothing for the cause and make yourself the center of the argument.

There seems to be more outrage with the “victims” of Vicks case than OJ’s case.

"victims"?

Truth is always offensive to some people.

Smart or dumb, this remark does not remotely justify him losing his slot on a broadcast. Ridiculous political correctness.

“OJ’s victims were not”

How, in ANY stretch of the imagination, were OJ’s victims not innocent? What a bizarre statement.

It’s the same deal, just different victim. Cruelty begets cruelty.

Riiiiiiight.

OJ’s EX-wife (yes they were divorced) should have lived like a nun the rest of her life?

If OJ were a sane man he would be glad that his EX-wife had taken up with a nice respectable Jewish guy, maybe encouraged them to marry.

It’s not unjust that people get more worked up / punitive about dog abuse than rape? You’re entitled to your opinion.

"It's really a sad day in this country when somehow ... Michael Vick would have been better off raping a woman if you look at the outcry of what happened,"

That would only apply if the rapist were black.

Just ask the Duke Lacrosse players about the outcry when it was thought that they raped a whore.

Monumental dimwit moment.

BS, he was telling the truth. People, including conservatives who should know better, are acting as if killing dogs is equivalent to killing children, it isn't. Dogs are animals, it is cruel and against the law to fight them and torture them, but at the same time they are still DOGS, not humans. I read one post on another thread where Vick was compared to Sadam, yep, dog killer compared to someone who slaughtered hundreds of thousands of humans and ran them through wood chippers while still alive. Talk about losing perspective!

Zeise had it exactly right, the idiocy in this country is such at this time, that raping a woman(especially if she was white and not some protected race)would have not raised near the stink as fighting his dogs has caused.
