NORWOOD - Two unidentified men were reportedly seen taking photos of the facilities at Norwood Memorial Airport during the past week, prompting security concerns among police and airport officials.
A woman reported the suspicious activity to police Tuesday, claiming to have seen two dark-skinned males walking south on Access Road near airport property about 7:30 the previous night, according to police records. The men were seen a short time later sitting on a bench in an observation area that overlooks the airport, according to records.
The woman further stated that she believed the two men were the same people a friend of hers saw last week taking pictures of the airports main building, police said. Obviously were going to keep an eye out, said police spokesman Paul Bishop, adding that officers routinely patrol near the airport. They have pretty tight security down there. Assistant Airport Manager Mark Raymond declined to comment yesterday other than to say that the matter is still under investigation.
A police report indicates that airport officials knew the two men were seen in the area, but not that they were seen taking pictures. We have had those (reports) in the past, Bishop said. Its not new, its not unique. It could be something as simple as real estate people taking pictures. In todays atmosphere of terrorism, you have to be more careful.

A Laurel man died in a vehicular fire in Seat Pleasant last week, and Prince George's County Police are investigating the death as a homicide. The dead man was identified by county police as Idris Mohamed Abdul Yakoub, of the 9500 block of Muirkirk Road.
At about 11 p.m. on Aug. 9, county police officers and fire personnel answered reports of a vehicular fire in the 7100 block of Sheriff Road in Seat Pleasant. After extinguishing the fire, they found Yakoub inside and pronounced him dead on the scene. Cpl. Stephen Pacheco, a spokesman for county police, said the case was being handled as a homicide until evidence proved otherwise. "Unless investigators can tell immediately that it's not a homicide, they have to operate on the assumption that it is one," he said. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Police Department's homicide unit at 301-772-4925 or Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS.

Police in Spain were investigating a bomb scare at Malaga airport on Thursday involving an aircraft belonging to Irish carrier Aer Lingus, an Aer Lingus official said.
Aer Lingus's commercial manager, Enda Corneille told public broadcaster RTE Radio one of its planes, which was due to leave Malaga for Dublin on Thursday, was boarded by police. "Local police received details of a bomb threat which they are investigating," he said. "They boarded the aircraft and the aircraft is being towed to a secure area."
Andalusia national police and the Spanish National Airport Authority were not immediately available for comment. RTE Radio reported all 303 passengers and crew were removed from the plane.
