Listen To Goldwater
The American Spectator ^ | August 1, 2007 | Quin Hillyer

Posted on 08/01/2007 7:20:33 PM PDT by Oklahoma

At the 1960 Republican National Convention in Chicago, Barry Goldwater famously told conservatives to "grow up." It's time we hear that message again.

As in 1960, the conservative movement seems grumbling, disaffected, even downright angry -- and, most importantly, it sometimes seems more interested in complaining and moaning than in uniting, constructively, to achieve political success.

What's worse is that we seem to be fighting among ourselves. Every chance we get, we take shots at other conservatives. Nobody, it seems, is good enough. We moan that nobody is another Reagan. Nobody is another Churchill. Nobody is another Washington.

Read this early this morning and expected to see a thread by this afternoon, but if it exists I didn't find it. I think it is dead on the money.

Which one of the candidates on the Democratic side would, or even could, let as many illegals cross our borders as our current President has. Not all GOPs are good and that is a d#@& fact

“Every Damn one of them would. Wake up.”

I doubt that anyone of them could let in more than W would. On the other hand I don’t think any of our three candidates would let in as many as W or any of the Dem’s. McCain obvoiusly is through (snicker).

I agree with you whole heartly in spirit, however. Any of our candidates is a winner compared to the stinking Dem’s. I am just going for the one that is the strongest.

Suckin' A.

Too many of our people on this board are looking for some kind of a Conservative utopia and it ain’t gonna happen. We need some one who has an aggressive program and a cultural appeal that is right for the time. One that can hold together Conservatives and appeal to independents who we are now losing. A fact that to many people on this board are not facing.

And in 1994, during the Republican Revolution, in the days of the 'Contract With America', the drive-by media described the sea-change as a "temper tantrum of angry white men". I say, let's do it again!

I’m going to vote for the candidate of my choice too.

If the GOP wants to help elect Hillary, I can’t stop em. LOL

>>>>>>This is good.

I'm glad you think so. LOL

From the article: Rudy Giuliani was quite arguably the best big-city mayor in the history of mankind. And his record in New York was conservative on just about every count."

This is just as bad on the second thread posting, as it was on the first posting this morning. Quin Hillyer sounds like another shill for Rooty Toot.

All of them would let as many and probably more cross the border. None of the dems are running against President Bush the last time I checked.

The real question is how the top 2-3 Republicans would do versus Obama or Hillary on an assortment of issues not just immigration.

Supreme Court justices?

Taxes including death taxes?

National Security and War on Terror?

Economy and jobs?

etc etc

To me its no context. Any of the Republican candidates would be far preferable to a disastrous win by Obama or Hillary who are not just leftists but extremely inexperienced and way in over their heads for a job like the Presidency.

So I agree with this article that we need to keep out sites on the real enemy and unite around a Republican. Having said that we are still in the primary season so its fine to quibble over which one.

We gotta poach those RINOs out of existence. They’re killing the GOP.

The one thing we do not want to be is just shills for people masquerading as conservatives.

There is way too much money to be made espousing Free Trade in speeches and op-ed pages while taking or receiving bribes from lobbyists that result in ever larger and more complicated laws and government.

There is way too much money to be made espousing patriotism and loyalty while watering-down America's sovereignty and tradition with lackluster border enforcement and regional trade agreements.

There is way too much money to be made espousing good government while looking the other way on earmarking, congressional/adminstration perks, and the government-lobbyist revolving door.

We want to support someone, who at his core, is a true believer who may need to compromise occasionally to get his core principles realized. We don't want to support someone, who at is core, is an opportunist that will tilt at every breeze that threatens his political position.

Those who supported Goldwater knew they were supporting the real thing.

Those who support any of the current crop of candidates may very well have a little voice speaking to them in the back of their head saying: am I one of those guys who is born every minute?

Maybe we ought to grow up, but the Republicans double-crossed conservatives and showed themselves to be almost as crooked and subversive as the Rats. If they don’t PROVE themselves to be really and truly different from the Rats, they cannot be my party. I thought they were different until the last couple of years. It is up to them to grow up, not me. I know where I stand, and what the Republicans CLAIMED they stood for. It will not be easy to win back my trust.

Something I’ve noticed around here for a while now. there is apparently a new definition of rino, it now someone who is not 100% conservative and is anywhere to the left of the poster.

It's not that bad. There are objective values that most here would say are conservative- pro-life, limited government, reduced taxes, strong national defense, pro-WOT, fair trade, and border control.

Too angry?.. A republican attorney general giving Sandy Berger a stay of jail FREE card -AND- very suspicious treatment of 2 border guards -AND- a republican White RINO HOuse lobbying heavily to amnesty and make it possible for 20+ million prospective democrats to register in 2008 for Hitlery..

Well those things and many more tend to make republicans kind of PISSED OFF..
If you're NOT angry there must be something WRONG WITH YOU..
UNless you're a democrat MOLE..

I am reminded of something Ed Kotch said when he was running for mayor, (I paraphrase) If you agree with me 70% of the time, vote for me. If you agree with me 100% of the time, see a Psychiatrist.
