Just turned on the news. 35W bridge collapsed in the Mississippi River. Cars, trucks, semis.....
Fires burning, tanker trucks, at least one school bus, more than ten cars......
Just now breaking.......
LOL!
Not when there are Rosie O'Donnell and Charlie Sheehan types around.
Fox says unoffical speculation is from 20 to 30 missing and unaccounted for.
(((I live on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and work in D.C. I take the Chesapeake Bay Bridge twice a day.
Are you addicted to the Valium yet? ;^))))
Believe it or not, after doing it so long, I don’t even remember sometimes whether I’ve already crossed or not...it just becomes a stretch of road.
And in Minnesota they spent $800 million for a Light Rail system while their bridges are literally collapsing.
But we need the worthless little choo-choo train because a small group in town wants us to be “just like Europe”. This makes me sick, and I think heads should roll over this, however the mayor and governor had little to do with it. The metropolitan council on the other hand, the un-elected, all-powerful body of soulless commies had everything to do with it!
“Neither the engineers that inspected the bridge, or the ones hired to do the repairs had any appreciation for what they were working on.
The proof is in the water.”
Well said!
What about the crazy Imams? Didn't they pull their prayer stunt at their airport?
http://www.ctre.iastate.edu/educweb/2004seminar/bridge_inspection_pt1.pdf is a powerpoint presentation about the history of bridge collapses and bridge inspections. I remember when the Hatchie River bridge collapsed on US 51 in West Tennessee (see page 59 of the presentation). It’s hard to believe it happened almost 20 years ago. After the State of TN was officially blamed for the failure, they basically shored up or replaced every bridge in the state.
The Cumberland and Stones Rivers come together in Nashville, and the Cumberland snakes through the city with a series of “bends”. You can’t go 10 miles without crossing a bridge. We we have many bridges on main arteries built way before 1967. The US 70 westbound bridge over the Stones River is almost 100 years old. TDOT is working to widen the eastbound bridge to handle traffic both ways. They will turn the old bridge into pedesterian walk that is a part of the wonderful Greenway System that our city feels compelled to build with our tax dollars.
She looks mad! LOL!
Thanks for the post with the info on the Hone bridge. I road across that last fall. It's still screwed up.
If I were to give DHS the benefit of the doubt, I would state tht they mean that before the incident and at the time of the announcement, they have no intelligence “chatter” that indicates that there was a possibility of terrorist attack. All of their spidey sensors show nothing.
Of course communication discipline would mean they had no advance warning, too.
I use US 190 when I have to go from I-49 to I-12. It's probably a little slower, but an eaiser drive.
CCM repair work in our area:

They had some kind of conference there.
My first visit to Milwaukee I got lost at night and wound up on the Hoan Bridge (The Bridge to No Where) at night.
Of course a light mist had frozen on the bridge deck and I tiptoed my 1984 Plymouth Horizon downhill to Cudahay.
All of the darn SALT & Chemicals we use in the Winter, coupled with -35 Degrees to 95 Degrees in the Summer doesn’t help much either !!
The Light Rail was Jesse Venturas pet project.
I was on it once when a train went across. The whole thing bounced with each freight car. When one of the Railroads sent a huge steam engine to the NO worlds fair, they took everyone off the train before it went across. They weren't completely sure the whole thing wouldn't fall in.
The old bridge in Baton Rouge and the one in Natchez were about the same as the Huey Long.
President Bush is speaking but he needs to stick to the bridge...
Hes complaining about congress...
ClaireSolt, perhaps the phone lines are all tied up and that is why your calls are going to voicemail. I will pray that you hear from them soon and all is well.
There’s a letter to the editor in the MN newspaper today speaking to that issue, which will no doubt lead to some serious outrage.
