UK women 'least likely to care what men think'

Russian women are more worried about a man's seal of approval

However, it seems that British women couldn't care less after a survey showed they are the least likely to put effort into their appearance for the sake of men.
They have the lowest levels of concern in the world for what husbands, boyfriends and other male observers might think, with only 51 per cent caring whether men liked their appearance, the study said.
Japanese women were second bottom with 53 per cent followed by Americans at 56 per cent.
Indian, Spanish and Korean women were far more worried about having a man's seal of approval, but it was Russia which topped the poll of 10,000 women, with 77 per cent saying that they cared what their men thought.
Janet Saunders, of Clinique, the cosmetics company which commissioned the study, said: "British women like to feel confident and beautiful for their own pleasure and take pride in their outward appearance." Susan Quilliam, a relationship psychologist said: "It's a delicate balance. It's a positive thing in an equal relationship to reference the other person's tastes and preferences sometimes."
The survey also showed, that Britons are among the keenest on cosmetic surgery. Thirty five per cent of British women said they have gone, or are willing to go, under the knife for beauty.
Only Korean women were more likely to consider surgical enhancement, while just three per cent of Indian women condone it.
The survey also asked which of the 12 countries polled had the most beautiful women. Although most found their country's own women the best looking, Britons rated Italian and Indian women more beautiful than themselves.

The rottenest marriages that I have beheld were based on the guy falling for a waistline and boobs. And those guys always whine the loudest when they get cheated and disappointed--but any onlooker could have predicted the outcome.

What bothers me is that because the women's lib movement turned out to be so loud, outrageous and hypocritical it gives normally nice conservative men the idea that they can act any boorish, mean and inconsiderate way they want to women, particularly those who in any way espouse even one innocent but germane concept born of the increased consciousness that era did awake.
Sure in many cases it was political correctness run amok but there is something to be said for the males in our society behaving graciously. Some threads that go the nutty route on this normally polite and conservative site regarding women are little more than the stuff of horny adolescents acting badly.
Like the thong picture or that quote from Rush Limbaugh's site. Sometimes they put up a picture of very ugly women with some kind of photoshopped printing on it declaring them to be Feminazis....always in any thread where a female posts anything that their male gonads do not like. They are meaner than all get out and I wonder if this is truly the presentation these conservative men want to present of themselves to the world. Alas, they're too busy having fun.
Women, as always, are often too shy/scared to defend themselves. I mean they'll do some of the meanest stuff you'd never believe.
Call her a crook. Call her a dangerous, tyrannical. But who cares that men here don't want to have sex with her?
I think this will backfire, this constant, nasty "fat-old-ugly"---and alienate some women voters. It might even build sympathy for her if her opponents are seen as porny jerks.
I had a friend, a lapsed Catholic, who married a mennonite woman. They are wonderfully happy. She sounds like what you're looking for, or at least what you say you're looking for--traditional, feminine, womanly, moral, family-oriented. But not lots of makeup, pushup bras, tinkly giggles, high heels or French thongs. No Stepfords.
Beware, though. They expect a lot of honor, too. They're not necessarily meek and timid, and you wouldn't be able to ship her back to Manila if it didn't work out. And they love kids, lots of them.

Wow, you hit on another pet peeve of mine.
For I can’t think of anyone I dislike more than Hillary but get a grip...I think sometimes. She looks like a woman of her age. I’m betting many of those who think it great sport to remark on her looks or how they would only use another fellow’s parts to “do” her, well I often wonder what the hell they look like.
I’ve seen men post the most thoughtless stuff on a woman’s looks and you’ll seldom see women doing the same. It’s the same old thing...men can look like one of those guys from Deliverance but think they are God’s personal judge of females upon the planet and how they should become more “womanly” to please them.
You’re right about that alienation thing. I get so shocked when I see a group of boorish Freepers gang up on a woman bashing free-for-all. By me they make as true the concept of a male conservative as a lout who would keep women barefoot, pregnant and contrite with a whipping now and again.
A group of men left unfettered and unslapped by the more gracious females of this society tend to get, let’s lay the truth out here, out of control. It’s the females who tend to lay soft gloves on social behavior but if a female dares to suggest just a quick stop and think about such boorish behavior, they gang up on her as if she were Gloria Steinham. Conservative women should not complain, is their thought. Conservative women should know their place.
I ponder the poor silly foolish young woman who might really admire say, a Hillary Clinton. We’ve all been young and dumb and we’ve all had heroes that later in life we’ve discovered had feet of clay. Should that foolish woman chance to stop by these Hillary bashing threads which dwell endlessly on her looks and the depths these freeper male posters would go to to avoid any sexual contact I’m sure she’ll leave with every preconceived stereotype she ever had about conservative men completely affirmed.
I still say Rush Limbaugh, a fellow who thinks with his gonads if ever there was one, contributes mightily to this behavior. Rush is no expert on love and those who follow his romantic wisdom are really on a bad track.

'Course "conservative" women will say they're no feminists. It goes without saying. But it's too late for that, the poison is in the air, we breathe it, they breathe it. The two here demand that men behave like pussy cats, otherwise they're "boorish". Look sweets, no one needs to advertise mail order bride shipping firms - Google on “foreign brides” (with quotes) and you’ll get 175,000 hits. I don’t need to see pics of fat ass thongs on the Internet, I ride the commuter train every day seeing the real things. As we said, it’s nothing personal, pics or no pics, there are social ills here that these 175,000 hits illustrate, and they’ll be there no matter what you say or what insults you toss my way!
But this mysogyny here on FR is alienating. I have seen several gangups of highly ungentlemenly "conservatives" behaving like LOUTS. Conservatives need women, and Thong Slut from Brazil isn't going to vote here, or stuff envelopes or make phone calls to the Senate.
One of the best writers IMO on the relations between the sexes isn't read much anymore--George Gilder wrote "Sexual Suicide" and made the argument that women civilize men and make them productive, that without them men were louts prone to criminality. He was castigated for sexism against women, but I found it instead a strike he was making against men.
The real failure of feminism, probably, is the failure of women to civilize men.
And boys will be boys, if they want to stay boys.
I can't disagree with that. Or perhaps, to riff on that thought, it's the success persuading women that it's not their responsibility.
Then, I know a case of a woman who, unable to recognize civilized behaviour in a man, filed a sexual harassment against him (among other things, he was accused of giving her a bar of chocolate which had the word 'Passion' printed on the wrapping [she ate it before making the complaint!], and of kissing her hand.) There was no harassment, and the dude won in the end.
