Permalink Why Bill OReillys Attack on FreeRepublic.com are Unfair
Bill O’Reilly’s been making waves the past few weeks by focusing on the prevalance of ‘hateful’ content at the liberal website, Daily Kos. O’Reilly is particularly disturbed to see Democratic presidential candidates agreeing to speak at the annual YearlyKos convention that will take place August 2nd through 5th.
To show balance in his reporting, O’Reilly has unfortunately chosen to target the good people who visit the conservative website, www.FreeRepublic.com. Last night O’Reilly had on his show a friend of mine, Kristinn Taylor, who is a spokesperson for Free Republic, to defend the website from O’Reilly’s criticisms.
To his credit, O’Reilly noted that the amount of controversial content at FreeRepublic pales in comparison to that which appears on a near-daily basis at DailyKos.
As someone who visits FreeRepublic each day, and as someone who has contributed to the website’s fundraising drives, I feel compelled to speak out in defense of FreeRepublic from the critical comments made by O’Reilly.
FreeRepublic.com was launched in the infancy of the Internet, serving as a source for the sharing of news stories from around the world, and the chance to have an open dialogue on these stories. Soon thereafter, FReepers (as they are known), used the website to also organize grass roots efforts to allow patriotic Americans to mobilize efforts to make their voices heard in the public square.
As the Chairman of Move America Forward, the nation’s largest pro-troop organization, I’ve seen the impact that such efforts have had. Thousands upon thousands of proud, decent Americans who love their country have become informed of Move America Forward’s countless pro-troop rallies, care package shipments and calls for help to assist the heroic men and women of the United States military thanks to Free Republic.
To equate these decent and noble efforts with those of a website like DailyKos, which routinely denounces the U.S. military and the foundations of liberty that this nation cherishes, is dishonest and unfair.
I won’t stand for that, and I urge all the members and supporters of Move America Forward to show solidarity with the great Americans who participate at FreeRepublic forums.
This September FReepers will once again use the FreeRepublic website to organize public displays of support for our troops and their missions in the War on Terror. This is the kind of good work these people do each and every day, and that deserves the respect and support from all of us who cherish this country and the leadership our nation provides in fighting the forces of tyranny and terrorism.

Thanks Melanie
O'Reilly has written five non-fiction books, one of which includes graphic scenes of sex and violence, including teenagers having sex with adults
Anyone know if this is true?
There are times when I see questionable things, but I really don’t see us on FR comparable to KOS. He must have hunted for those quotes, because I’ve never seen anything like that.
By the way Bill, I don’t hate black people...actually have a few cousins that are. Plus I speak-out against that sort of garbage. I sort of wonder who made those comments.
“Please: NO profanity, NO personal attacks, NO racism or violence in posts.”
That could be a part from his book Cultural Warrior.
Hey, I quit watching this guy a while back—but FoxNews could really be what they claim to be if they speakee sayonara to this boy.
He has little to say, and does more harm than he does good.
He, however, occupies a time slot that could be used more to the benefit of Fox and Americans.
Wake up, Fox!
Is this really what FreeRepublic is all about?
Mr. O’Reilly, you owe everyone on Free Republic an apology!
Is that pithy enough for you?
Sent.
Somewhere on that thread I remember reading last night that the words “I hate blacks” were actually part of the title of an article found (and posted) from some San Francisco fishwrap.
Thank you Melanie Morgan!
Wow, that’s it...a title of a thread...on an article...wow, bill’s grasping at anything.
O’Reilly is threatened by a free republic. He hates free speech, unless it’s his own. Then he’ll charge you for it and then call you a “pinhead” if you dare disagree with him.
I’d like to see O’Reilly and Chris Matthews both locked in an air tight room and see who can use up all the oxygen first.
Somewhere on that thread I remember reading last night that the words I hate blacks were actually part of the title of an article found (and posted) from some San Francisco fishwrap. You are correct.
For THAT article, as well as other -- more recent -- occurrences of that disgusting phrase, try a Google "site search" of the phrase "I hate blacks" -- as posted on Free Republic:
www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&q=site%3Awww.freerepublic.com+%22%2BI+hate+blacks%22In EVERY instance, that phrase was either attacked as foolish and/or inflammatory -- or DELETED.Note that this search is NOT exhaustive, and also that the results found change OFTEN.
Yep, that’s the one! For his penance, O’Reilly should be forced to read that article on live television, along with the 13 comments disparaging it that were posted contemporaneously by FReepers. For starters.
Id like to see OReilly and Chris Matthews both locked in an air tight room and see who can use up all the oxygen first.Of course, that statement might be misinterpreted as "hateful..."
...to those whose education in English composition never reached such ADVANCED concepts as......hyperbole and sarcasm. :o)
:o)
Bill's probably used those exact words, leaning out of the executive shower, waving his loofa at some cutie...
