I'm not going to call Bill O'Reilly a liar... yet, but... on his TV show today, he read off a laundry list of ridiculous "hate" statements like "I hate blacks," "Hillary should be assassinated" and "homosexuals are dogs" that he said he personally found on Free Republic and claims that they were posted here today. I do not believe that. I doubt that he personally logged on to FR and I doubt he found any such thing posted here today.
Who knows what we may have missed and is buried deep in our archives of millions of posts, but our readers do a pretty good job of alerting us to anything out of bounds that is posted and we pull it. Also, one of our readers found a couple of the quotes he alleges, and if they are the ones O'Reilly is complaining about, he took them way out of context. They were simply quotes in the articles posted not statements posted by FReepers.
As soon as he provides me a list of the alleged posts and their URLs, I'll believe him. If he doesn't... then... well, guess he'll deserve to be known as what he is.
I recorded his show tonight and am going to replay it verrrry slowwwwly so I can document exactly what was said. On a side note, I’ll offer one particular example of comments being made on your forum that would be classified as hateful and unacceptable and yet are allowed to stand. Those who stand up against that sort of hate speech are quickly ganged up on. You just might want to keep an eye on all of those posts that call for killing all Muslims when there are articles posted regarding terrorism, Iraq, etc. I’ve recently experienced that once again, and it is not uncommon.
I've seen very few post like that in my years here and the one's that I have I've never seen last more than 5 minutes without being pulled and the poster banned.
If BOR can't provide links he may go the way of Dan Rather.
And if he can provide links, and it is found the post were only up for a few minutes, it ought to make you wonder how he found them.
I don’t think he personally logged on. I seem to recall him using the “we” word (as in his staff), but wanting his audience to think that he was personally involved in the research.
I’ve never read anyone on FR say they hate blacks.
ORielly is at best an average entertainer. He must think there’s money to be made by attacking FR. He doesn’t like FR because many folks here can’t stand his wishy washy play both sides against the middle style. Yes, I’ll admit I’m one. Guess that’s hate speach too?
But I've only been here for 7 years, guess Bill O'Reilly knows more.
Gosh I hope you take him to court for slander.
I agree, in my short time here I’ve never seen posts like he read this evening.
“if he wishes to be fair and balanced he should have provided context as well as when the posts were made, it sounded to me that he tried to say that stuff was posted Today.”
Let’s call his bluff!
I wish O'Reilly would be more careful with the stuff he says, such as the ridiculous statement he made about poor little Sean Hornbeck (the kid that was abducted in Missouri). O'Reilly claimed that Sean liked being tortured by that reprobate that abducted him. O'Reilly should police his owns words first.
Furthermore, if any such statements are posted to FR, they will be removed immediately as soon as he provides the links. O’Reilly attempts to use what might turn out to be one post in a million to paint the entire site as a hate site and our posters as racists. That is disingenuous reporting at best.
The moderators on Freerepublic are some of the most well balanced and sharpest referees around.
I’ve been reading and posting for years, and have yet to see one instance where such a comment survived past a few minutes.
I suspect that the concept of volunteers seems a bit threatening to O’Rielly.
His comments were little short of slander.
Fake, but accurate.
Be honest now, how long did it take you to figure that out?
:)
(hehe.. I just had to rib ya!)
Use my post 40. I’m not finding the comments he mentions.
speach = speech
Bumping your suggestion. A good one.
I wanted to send a note to him about all the prayer threads and the Religion forum and the Daily Posts there. Plus other daily posts like the Canteen and the Dose that are always so positive!
I have never seen anything like his comments here.
Because you have "never seen anything like his comments here" does not mean that they are not here. Have you read each and every thread and all of the comments that follow, every single day, 24/7? Personally, I wouldn't call someone a "liar" because I, myself, haven't seen something that others have. Just my opinion.
Mike, I see you have been here a little while. I use my computer as part of my self-employed job and read threads all day and all night. Since January, ‘98. I have VERY RARELY seen any statements like those cited by O’Reilly, and when they do show up (usually by newbs) they are immediately deleted by moderators.
O’Reilly is duplicitous at best and a flat-out liar at worst.
Man, have I ever lost respect for that guy.
I’d bet my best hate-line you won’t get a reply, tomorrow or ever!
I saw that too and found it hard to believe. FR does a good job of deleting stuff like that.
