I taped a segment on the O'Reilly Factor for airing tonight to defend Free Republic against charges that it is a hate site. The segment will air in the 'D block' around 8:35 p.m. EDT and rerun at 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. EDT.
Rather than tell how it went, I'll leave it for folks to watch and decide for themselves. I hope I did right by FR.
We'll be having company tonight as some of Bill O'Reilly's two million-plus viewers check out FR for themselves. So please bear that in mind as you comment tonight. The Daily Kos is waging a very nasty personal campaign of retribution against O'Reilly. No sense in us piling on. Let's use this as an opportunity to show people why FR is the best conservative site on the web.

O’Reilly is conflating two things -
- first, posters DO mock and criticize O’Reilly, and some of it can be quite insulting to him. Bill, that goes with the territory of being a public figure.
- but that is NOT in the least in the same category as the statement “I hate blacks.” I have not seen any such statement or anything in the same category not get pulled by a mod.
O’Reilly has a somewhat thin skin and is trying to group together those who might mock, criticize and insult him in the same class as racists, which is not correct and is, frankly, beneath the standards of what The O’Reilly Factor should adhere to.
O’R said we need professionals to monitor it. FR could have 50 pros and you still couldn’t screen all threads.

HAD to be some troll on a ZOT! thread, or POSSIBLY a FReeper in good standing being snide or sarcastic in the broader context of the thread they were posting to.
Admit I'm still a little on the new side, here, but in the couple years I've been around NOBODY but interloping trolls has ever posted ANYTHING like that.
Bill needs to quit shooting from the lip, and do more of his own show prep; like, maybe, actually READING several current threads on this forum.

That’s from the Daily Kos, ORielly said when he held the paper in the begining, though he should have clarified it the second time.
Yeah, I’d like to see a list of the offending posts. I’ve been around here since ‘98 mostly as a lurker and I have NEVER seen posts like BOR is talking about. I think he’s taking heat from the libs for attacking KOS and had to square it in his mind. What an asshole.
Even though they were clearly plants trying to make the Rally for America look bad, the local Fox station showed them on the news and showed them as "Pro-War Supporters"
Any moron could come on to FR make a name like "RightWing...." and then write something nasty and vile trying to make the site look bad.
Shame Shame Shame on Bill O'Reilly for his slander of this web site.

You are going to have to ban yourself if you keep that up.
Anybody can game the FR system, post a hate comment, then quickly download the copy before it’s deleted. I see nothing wrong with the FR community policing itself and the moderators following up. Maybe we go a little long with the ZOTs.
Come to think of it, I am going to have to agree with you.
O'Reilly lives in a rarified atmosphere, where money is not an obstacle.

Isn’t there some software program that could catch certain words or phrases and alert the mods to them so they can be deleted? And the offender zapped without warning?
Notably absent from O’Reilly’s rant was that for every “hate post”, there are many immediate replies from typical users, condemning these racist/abusive comments, often with remarks that the troll belongs over at the Daily Kos. Usually, though, those posts don’t even last long enough to generate many replies.
So much for “fair and balanced”. Looks like Bill O’Reilly advocates expert free speech screeners.
