Ancient fossil forest found by accident (potential major out of order problem for Darwinists)
news@nature.com (via BioEd online) ^ | April 23, 2007 | Katharine Sanderson

Geologists have found the remains of a huge underground rainforest hidden in a coal mine in Illinois. The fossil forest, buried by an earthquake 300 million years ago, contains giant versions of several plant types alive today.

...

Also surprising is the presence of remains from mangrove-like plants. "It was always assumed that mangrove plants had evolved fairly recently," says Falcon-Lang.

Here’s a dial-up friendly interview with the author of “The Privileged Planet” that you might find interesting.

I’m afraid that link does nothing for me. There is nothing there that supports Dr. Townes assertions if that was your intention.

but but but doesn't the fact that ichthyosaurs are so dolphin-like destroy evolution? That resemblance must have happened on porpoise...

We're into puns now, just for the halibut?

I was just reading it and thought you might find it interesting. I also posted you an interview with Dr. Gonzalez that does indeed support Dr. Townes assertions.

Pretty much.

My underlying point was that similar conditions, such as marshy tidal flats, require similar structures, such as mangrove-like wide spread stilt roots.

I’m less than astonished that “mangrove-like” trees were around before mangrove trees.

That still holds the narrow view that life can only manifest under the conditions and in the forms that we find here. I don’t find that kind of in-the-box thinking very inspiring whether it comes from a scientist or a theologian.

Do you have any evidence that you would like to put up that refutes Dr. Gonzalez/Townes position? It seems to me, the more we learn, the more we come to realize that we truly do live on a privileged planet.

I just clicked it and it didn’t play. Then I clicked it again and it began playing a few seconds later. I suggest limiting the screen size as it distorts pretty badly in anything but the smallest screen setting—GGG

For the 10 billionth time... EVOLUTION HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH GOD.

If you make an unsupportable assertion 10^100th times, the unsupportable assertion does not become true or supportable on the 10^100th + 1 time.

Evolution happens. If God is the truth then evolution would seem to have a striking connection to God. How many times do I repeat that to make it true or supportable?

.Whatever his accomplishments in the field of physics that's an extremely narrow view of things. He presupposes that life can only exist in the kinds of conditions and in the forms it has been found in so far. The range of life that has been discovered on this planet shows that it is not limited much by temperature, pressure or a need for sunlight, oxygen or CO2. It is rather parochial of him to assume that life could not exist in conditions entirely different than manifest in this universe. His assumptions are altogether more absurd than the ones he's trying to dismiss.

More absurd than your presupposition that there are more universes than the one you currently occupy. Tell me, how would you observe these alternate universes and the life forms currently occupying them?

“I’m still waiting for someone to come up with a single piece of creation/ID evidence.”

Psalms 19:1-4a

“The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world.....”

Romans 1:18-22

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.

For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

The evidence is there, you simply choose not to believe it.

I wasn't disputing their position which is based on an assumption formed around evidence collected from this one small speck in space. I am disputing the rationality and limited vision they rest their position on. A being living on a planet orbiting a red dwarf sun, and knew no other place, would come to the same conclusions. "How amazing that all the life there is can only exist under these specific conditions!" That is, they would come to those conclusions provided that they felt self-satisfied that the life forms they knew were the only kinds possible and never considered that life, the universe and everything might be far more complex and more far reaching than they have the capacity to imagine.

How is it that someone who believes in an all-knowing, all-seeing, all-powerful God finds it so easy to fall in with the tightly limited views of men who bandy about assumptions like they were speaking of physical laws? When you step into the purely theoretical either everything is possible or you are pushing a personal agenda.

More absurd than your presupposition that there are more universes than the one you currently occupy.

LOL Nice try. You are falsifying the record. I did not presuppose that or even suggest that it might be the truth.

Tell me, how would you observe these alternate universes and the life forms currently occupying them?

That is exactly the point I was making about Townes statement. He can't have observed any of that or anything beyond this planet in terms of life forms or the lack thereof. That means he is playing in the purely theoretical on the basis of assumptions. Townes is the one who proffered a theory of life throughout the universe and juxtaposed that with a comparison to theories of other universes not me.

I'm simply pointing out how limited that view is and irrational in its ego-centricity. He presupposes that his view has taken everything into account when it is demonstrably very narrow. He launched his rocket and left logic and reason on the ground.

(Please abstain from engaging the nasty frevolutionists in the petty word wars and bitter conflict. If you challenge them, please do so with POLITELY, with facts, logic and links to back up your claims. Their intent is to shut down dissent from their exalted opinion of their work and the work of others by making each crevo thread a flamewar, and we should do our best to keep the peace and avoid that. I will report abuse on BOTH sides if I see a problem.)

Seems like you put your foot in it, Dave.
