White House enforces strict dress code for tourists
CBS News ^ | 7/26/07

Posted on 07/29/2007 10:50:10 AM PDT by Santa Fe_Conservative

WASHINGTON New signs are posted around the White House indicating a new strict enforcement of the dress code, the Washington Post reported Thursday. The code applies to all visitors and staff members, including tourists.

Some tourists are finding the strict clothing restrictions at the White House un-American.

The forbidden items include jeans, sneakers, mini-skirts, t-shirts, tank tops and absolutely no flip flops.

The motivation for the clothing crack-down comes from the Bush Administration who think some of those who work there and those who visit just don't dress appropriately.

“Yes, manners and dress have a place, but the Nanny State can’t dress the public. If their parents didn’t teach those basic social graces, and since th public is the ultimate power in America, I hold that the public can dress as they wish when visiting the White House.”

Very well put

Looks like I won’t be visiting the White House anytime soon ! When I go on vacation, I wear what I want, not what I have to or required !

It's a pain to get into the great house of the people anyway. Have to get tickets from your Kongresskritter, and they are gone far in advance.

Yep...sounds JUST like a response borne out of the Clinton era = "if it feels good do it."

Evidently you have no concept of freedom of choice. But that’s fine, you can bow to your superiors all you want and kiss their ass to kingdom come. Makes no difference to me.

I thought we had a revolution to get away from airs of pretention.

Your school apparently ordered those feel-good new age history books with loads of inaccuracies then.

That depends. If Conservatives complain, the policy stays in place. If Libs complain, it comes down right away.

This is how it happens. First they tell us how to dress in the WH, then they tell us how to dress elsewhere. Slippery slope folks.

This is pure idiocy. You are visiting the PRESIDENT's house!! So show some gravitas for once.

Nobody said anything about heels and nylons, we’re talking flip flops and t-shirts.
