WASHINGTON New signs are posted around the White House indicating a new strict enforcement of the dress code, the Washington Post reported Thursday. The code applies to all visitors and staff members, including tourists.
Some tourists are finding the strict clothing restrictions at the White House un-American.
The forbidden items include jeans, sneakers, mini-skirts, t-shirts, tank tops and absolutely no flip flops.
The motivation for the clothing crack-down comes from the Bush Administration who think some of those who work there and those who visit just don't dress appropriately.

Those teenage girls with the flip-flops when they met the President was pathetic. I agree with all these bans except maybe sneakers as there is a LOT of walking to do in DC.

Agree 100% with the new policy. It’s not the Clinton WH anymore. This is the highest office in the **WORLD**, not your favorite theme park, and you better show some respect for it.
To: Santa Fe_Conservative
People have been complaining about the outfits some of the visitors wear at the WH. Even those receiving awards from the President are often in flipflops, tight and low cut blouses. A little respect for the people's White House is not a bad thing. Here's an example of good taste from the Young Farmers of America in the picture below:

The White House isn’t a ride at Disneyland. If you want to visit, show a minimum of respect.

What, like visiting the Queen at Buckingham palace?
What tourist wants to walk around all day dressed up?
I thought we had a revolution to get away from airs of pretention.
To: Bob J
Sure, I’m going to go to D.C. to see the sites and walk around in heels and nylons.
My family was there for two days. We didn’t have time OR the resources to change into fancy clothes and then change back.
