WASHINGTON New signs are posted around the White House indicating a new strict enforcement of the dress code, the Washington Post reported Thursday. The code applies to all visitors and staff members, including tourists.
Some tourists are finding the strict clothing restrictions at the White House un-American.
The forbidden items include jeans, sneakers, mini-skirts, t-shirts, tank tops and absolutely no flip flops.
The motivation for the clothing crack-down comes from the Bush Administration who think some of those who work there and those who visit just don't dress appropriately.
I would be surprised if this came from the President. Is he going to have to “shape up too”? It’s going to be interesting to watch what happens. Most Americans can see a funny side to just about anything. If we have to “dress up” I expect it will be more in a protest style than class.
Are you really that attached to your mini skirts and flip flops that you’d treat the White House with the same respect you’d treat the World’s Biggest Ball of Yarn attraction?
No, there are mature citizens and crybabies. You sound like a whiney teenager.
So much for taking my wife to the WH during next year’s “Rolling Thunder”. No room in the saddlebags for “church clothes”.
But, the way the Republicans are acting, in 2009 trousers around the ankles will again be considered appropriate dress.
We’ve got runaway spending, earmarks, no border control, and no guts to stand up to the dems...not to mention two Border Patrol Officers doing time for doing their jobs, but we’re concerned over an American citizen wearing Levi’s to visit the WH.
Sure glad we have our priorities straight.
Yep. Ol' Hickory invited the whole country to his inauguration party. The drunken rabble pushed into the White House and trashed the place. They smashed the china and stood on the elegant furnishings in muddy boots. It took weeks to clean the place.
It's my right as a 'merican to stand on the furniture and piss in the corner and by Gawd I'm a gonner do it.
Maybe they’ll let us in through the back door?
Should shorts be banned?
2 scenarios:
SCENARIO #1
‘im handicapped my feet are such that i can only walk when i wear tennis’
...or
‘my physician says that my degenerative foot condition will return if i don’t wear tennis’
Enter a team of Disablily ACT lawyers who beat the admin. to a pulp with lots of lawsuits and lurid headlines.
RESULT: 5 million republican votes swirl down the drain....brilliant
SCENARIO #2
A liberal moderator during a democrat debate questions any and all democrat candidates to wit:
“I’m gonna throw this out to all the champions of the poor we have on our stage tonight...just what do you all think of this bush admin. draconian ban on comfortable shoes for the poor blistered feet, especially the poor blistered handicapped feet, of poor, hot, tired and innocent whitehouse visitors....?
ANS: ‘well chris this is just another in a long, long line of examples of REPUBLICAN disregard for the pitifully down trodden in our country....
you know as well as i do that the rich among, us WELL they can afford those expensive wingtip and prada shoes.
AND why not? The mean rich republicans gave them those tax cuts awhile back so now they have the money to buy rich man’s shoes!
THEN you know what happened? These same cruel republicans turned right around and told the poor they cant wear comfortable tennis shoes when the come a callin at the whitehouse. Chris, these shoes are the only ones the wretches can afford after the hard work they perform all day earning their fully taxed, puny paychecks......
Isn’t this TYPICAL, CHris, yes it IS typical. Typical of the utter contempt that rich reptilian republicans in thier alligaor shoes have for the savagely poor of our country?
result: another couple of million votes go democrat...BRILLIANT.
They should be allowed in however they care to show up.
I like this. In Eastern Europe we were even encouraged to where longer sleeves over a sleeveless blouse. Not everyone did it. But I know they appreciated those of us who did.
Excellent. The way we dressed at the 4-H Club Congress too.
They should be allowed in however they care to show up.
Naked?
That’s not my decision to make.
Then wear your tennis shoes, just as long as they’re not all beat up and dirty. I can’t see why that would not be allowed. I don’t think they are expecting “church” clothes or anything fancy — just something that is decent and respectable, that’s all. Just use common sense.
And for all the slippery slope folks, libertarians, etc. - please - we are on a slippery slope right now to nihilism; the simple dress code is a step back to common sense, common courtesy, and common decency. Is it too much to ask citizens to be serious once in a while?
I totally agree. The WH is not an amusement park. It doesn’t take much effort, time or money to wear something reasonable. And the women don’t necessarily have to wear skirts or dresses when lightweight pants will do. I don’t even wear shorts when I;m in the desert in your great state. I wear lightweight pants and am just as cool and more comfortable than if I were in heavyweight jeans or shorts. When I was in your state last week, I work a pair of stretch pants and a stretch tee (a little dressier material) and also wore lightweight khakis and a short-sleeved collared shirt. How difficult is that?
>>>>Agree 100% with the new policy. Its not the Clinton WH anymore. This is the highest office in the **WORLD**, not your favorite theme park, and you better show some respect for it.<<<<<
I agree too! I was hoping someone would post this opinion.
I have the same attitude about attending church.
My error.
I meant to put a ;-) on the line below the Dear RINO_Lady.
Still, jeans are both quintessentially American, and the normal dress for Texans.
Although, now that I think of it, the Bush family is New England, not really Texan.
The White House’s present resident would get a better response if El Presidente Jorge Boosh had listened to the overwhelming wish of the American public on the border/immigration issue.
:-) Why they handled immigration the way they did is beyond me as well. For whatever reason, the President thought is was the right thing to do. While I think something should be done like the President, they should have had something that the people could have supported. Maybe something that was step-by-step. And yes, I like my jeans as well.
I love being a pssenger on the back of my husband’s Harley. What should one do in that situation? Hmmm... That one is a little tricky. I’ll try to think of something.
