WASHINGTON New signs are posted around the White House indicating a new strict enforcement of the dress code, the Washington Post reported Thursday. The code applies to all visitors and staff members, including tourists.
Some tourists are finding the strict clothing restrictions at the White House un-American.
The forbidden items include jeans, sneakers, mini-skirts, t-shirts, tank tops and absolutely no flip flops.
The motivation for the clothing crack-down comes from the Bush Administration who think some of those who work there and those who visit just don't dress appropriately.
Free Men will go where they want when they want wearing what is comfortable.
I must tell my Squadron Commander that I am not a slave and I will wear what ever I want. Or does your declaration not include military men?
Seriously, I really think they would NOT have been denied. How could they be? I think everyone is taking this dress code too much to the letter.
I scroll past it without reading, it’s obvious this person does this to attract attention to his/her simplistic statements.
I take exception you calling me “RINO_Lady” when I am far from that and when you don’t even know me. It is just as disrespectful as the way some people dress nowadays. The WH is not asking for much at all. People are getting way too carried away over this.
We had decided to go to DC next year but will go back to Caribbean instead....Never been to DC and thought it might be fun to tour our Capital....We are in Pennsylvania so its a short day trip to DC....I am disabled though and I cant wear dress shoes. I must order New Balance black sneaker type with velcro closure. I was looking forward to touring the White House...damn....just damn
Of course he should. A soldier of all people should know about dress code.
Oh, go to the WH. They’re not going to be that strict. Those shoes will be just fine. All the WH is asking is no “sneaker snearks” or flip-flops. :-)
The WH is NOT the people's house. It's the President's house. A President duly authorized by the people to live in it.
The guard at the Tower of London made me button my blazer jacket when visiting the crown jewels. A friend had a similar experience at Lenin’s Tomb. I cannot imagine visiting the White House dressed like some people dress for church these days. Acually, I can’t imagine going to church dressed the way some people dress for church these days.
LOL...y’know, I was thinking this exactly thing when I read the headline and exerpt...
And how lucky we are that he actually allows the peasants, serfs, tax slaves and general riff raft to visit it from time to time. Even if we are racists.
No doubt the dress code is outlined in the devine right of kings not to be offended by the silly dress of the common folk.
At least some of us can see that the emperor has no clothes.
Perhaps if the government paid as much attention to enforcing our borders as they do a silly dress code we wouldn't be in the fix we're in.
When I start calling you names idiot then you have the freedom to do the same. Until then don’t post to me.
“I must tell my Squadron Commander that I am not a slave and I will wear what ever I want. Or does your declaration not include military men?”
You know good and well it doesn’t. The Military are under different restrictions, on and off duty. They have a dress code (or at least the Marines do) on and off duty.
Yeah, the way things are going with this administration this about fits. I bet if you are illegal you can come in wearing whatever. Or, if you are of the muslim faith, you cant stop right in middle of tour for prayers. But Joe average American. You better dress right. You are setting such a fine example.
Absolutely accurate Freudian slip!
Whoa. I’m glad I didn’t wear flip flops.
NO JEANS?????
That's freakin' UN AMERICAN!!!
You know good and well it doesnt.
Just having a little fun at your expense! No real harm intended.
;-)
Seriously; our founding fathers understood that a man should present himself at his best at all times, allowing for the circumstances of his location and the event.
I vaguely recall a quote by George Washington stating that a man should not appear in his bed clothes outside his bed chamber.
I see nothing wrong with enforcing certain standards when visiting the White House.
