MUSKEGON -- A man who was shot in the forehead when he tried to rob a Muskegon Heights woman in her driveway early Wednesday has a long criminal record, according to police.
Edtwon Magett, 32, of Milwaukee, remained on life support Thursday in Hackley Hospital, police said.
Magett was shot by his intended victim about 1:30 a.m. in the driveway of a Riordan Street home in what authorities have called a drug-related robbery attempt.
His record showed prior convictions for armed robbery and narcotics violations in Wisconsin and Michigan, police said.
Authorities said a 27-year-old woman had just pulled into her driveway when she was confronted by Magett. She started to open the car door when he put a gun to her head and demanded money.
Police and prosecutors said the woman pulled a small-caliber handgun out of her pocket and shot Magett.
She forced an alleged accomplice to drag Magett to her porch and kick the door open to make it appear a break-in occurred, police said.
The woman and the robbery accomplice, a 19-year-old Muskegon Heights man, remained in the Muskegon County Jail on Thursday awaiting arraignment.
Warrants charging the two with multiple offenses were expected
Fear. Not only are the citizens prey for the predators but also for the nanny state lawmakers.
Just a guess, but it may not be legal in that area to actually defend yourself from violent crime unless it’s in your own home... or the woman may have believed that to be the case.
Maybe she was carrying drugs in her car and she wanted to move suspicion from the car to her home and make it look like a random robbery.
What’s the law there? Did she have the right to use deadly force since he had pulled a gun on her?
Spy vs Spy
I’ll venture a guess and say she was arrested for tampering with evidence or the crime scene.
WTF?
The public authorities are either crooked or stupid. Or both. Hopefully, a jury will set them straight. But it should not have to come to that.
looks like the “victim” and the would be robber and accomplice all knew each other. Clearly, it’s just a spat between drug dealers.
Had this been a regular woman defending herself from a creep, I’d say “that’s my kind of girl!” but maybe she isn’t in this case...
She should have shot the accomplice as well. That’s the lesson.
I don’t know how you get that out of the story. It says it was a drug related robbery. That could easily mean that the perp was trying to get money for drugs. The victim could have been anyone.
I do
That's what it looks like to me, but of course I could be wrong.
It’s one of those today’s victim is tomorrow’s suspect scenarios
Or it could be that the accomplice simply lied and told the cops that she made him do it. Wouldn’t be the first time a criminal lied to avoid prosecution, would it?
They arrested her for some reason, there just isn’t enough info here to know what’s up for sure.
It is Milwaukee though, and wouldn’t be the first time a buyer was ambushed after a major purchase.
I’ve seen that happen more than a few times but yes the article was lacking some detail on why she was arrested. On the surface it appears she did tamper with the scene though which can get you arrested at least where I am. Not something your average stand-up model citizen does
That could be true as well.
makes you wonder why he didn’t run off after she shot the first one, or why she didn’t shoot that guy as well in the heat of the moment. One armed assailant is reason enough to consider his partner to be armed as well. The shot would have been justified.
No, it’s MUSKEGON. Wrong state... Michigan.
