LOL. Seems I remember reading a story or seeing a Twilight Zone episode or a movie where someone traveled back in time to save another’s life, only to see that person lose his life in another way, because that was what the fates decreed. Death can’t be cheated. (Personally, I think God is in charge and if we ever develop something that can travel back in time, it will only be under His permission.)

Earth to all Freepers. What do you call a guy who can build a working TIME MACHINE for under $250,000 but finds himself explaining that he hasn't raised the funds yet because he's "picky"?
A Liar.

I’m not getting into one of these contraptions until they work properly.

The war for the future is being fought now, in the past.

I don’t know Primer but the part about saving the father reminds me of Frequency.

“Sadly, the way it works means that he will never be able to fulfil his original wish - to warn his father about his deteriorating health.”
This guy is brilliant and it would be fascinating to see his invention work.
But I think he missed the main point. His father would not change his behavior even if someone from the future went back to warn him. It’s part of human nature.
And IMHO that one fact overcomes all of the power of quantum physics.

In terms of science, Einstein, etc., I am pretty certain there is no way to go backwards. You can “slow down” and others “speed up” relative to you, but you can’t get to a point in time before your starting point.

Nice to see Urkel grew up and made something of himself...
To: fanfan
The article doesn’t describe how he gets back.

There are reasonable theories to explain that the reason we cannot travel into the future or past is that they do not exist.

Usually we say something meaningless and stupid when somebody dies, like, Dont he look nice, but this guy will be standing there with a club ready to beat you back to life just so he can beat you into submission again. When will we be rid of these fools?
Yep youre a Crusty Curmudgeon alright.
Occasionally someone honestly wants to save their loved one from themselves. Occasionally (not very often) they succeed.
And I for one will not dissuade them from tilting at their windmill. They may be a pain in their loved ones derriere but if they succeed they will have extended that loved ones life or at least made it a fuller and less damaging life.

How would one know if someone has altered events by traveling back in time?
What once was no longer exist, its been altered, so there would be no reference of what once was?
This guy must not have been successful at altering past events or his father would now be alive?
Unless his dad was originally alive and the son went back and altered the past so his dad died?
I think I am starting to get a head ache.
