Schumer: 'No more confirmations of Bush high court nominees'

New York Sen. Charles E. Schumer, a powerful member of the Democratic leadership, said Friday the Senate should not confirm another U.S. Supreme Court nominee under President Bush “except in extraordinary circumstances.”

“We should reverse the presumption of confirmation,” Schumer told the American Constitution Society convention in Washington. “The Supreme Court is dangerously out of balance. We cannot afford to see Justice Stevens replaced by another Roberts, or Justice Ginsburg by another Alito.”

Schumer said there were four lessons to be learned from Alito and Roberts: Confirmation hearings are meaningless, a nominee’s record should be weighed more heavily than rhetoric, “ideology matters” and “take the president at his word.”

“We should reverse the presumption of confirmation,” Schumer told the American Constitution Society convention in Washington. “The Supreme Court is dangerously out of balance. We cannot afford to see Justice Stevens replaced by another Roberts, or Justice Ginsburg by another Alito.”

This should be all the justification needed to demand Schumer be removed from the committee. This booger eating moron doesn't seem to understand that his role, as a senator is to provide "advice and consent" to the President's nominations. He's saying, in effect, that he's not going to allow any more confirmations based on his own leftist bias.

Hey, chuckles! Try not to forget, it was the leftists on the court that gave us the Kelo decision! "Out of balance?" Please show me where in the Constitution there's anything about what views the Justices must hold. And where there must be balance between Justices that base their decisions on the Constitution (like Thomas, Scalia, Alito, and Roberts) and those who like to make things up as they go along!

I swear! Chuckle-head Schumer reminds me of a cross between a used car salesman and a mob lawyer, without the class, honesty, or style of either! UGH!!!

Mark

Texas cares less about Oregon than it does about New York and that is hard to do.

Humblegunner, guess you have a new best friend!

Wow Eaker, you can speak for the whole state of Texas and all Texans that Oregon is lower on the totem pole than N.Y.? Thanks again for proving what the goof you are and how little influence you have with anyone but yourself, and even that is questionable. Looks like your tarnished reputation is known by some here.

Oregon is lower on the totem pole than N.Y.

Wasn't Oregon a Mexican historical figure??

I never heard much about Oregon.

General Álvaro Oregón Salido (February 19, 1880 – July 17, 1928) was President of Mexico from 1920 to 1924.

Born in Hacienda de Siquisiva, in Navojoa, Sonora, to an Irish-Mexican ranching family, he entered politics in 1911 with his election as mayor of the town of Huatabampo. At the time, he supported President Francisco I. Madero against a revolt led by Pascual Orozco. When Madero was overthrown and murdered in the revolt led by Félix Díaz and General Victoriano Huerta (and supported by US Ambassador Henry Lane Wilson), Oregón joined Venustiano Carranza in revolt against Huerta's new government, and succeeded in forcing Huerta from power on July 14, 1914.

Apparently he was a revolting guy.

Do y'all mean to tell me we have a state named after him???

'No more confirmations of Bush high court nominees'

Oh, so Chucky has publicly admitted that he is closed minded and prejudiced.

What a POS.

Note to the Republican Party: If you ever hope to regain anything of what you've lost, it's time you show how different you are from the Democrats, instead of how much you are like them.

"None of these people, none of them, ever seem to follow their Constitutional duties, or think about what is best for this country.....ever."

They've gotten away with it for so long now it's become SOP.

The GOP will do nothing but cave if they face a Dem president nominating more leftwing activist judges. The media, which eagerly helped destroy Bork, and which tried to do the same for Thomas, Roberts, and Alito, would portray GOP attempts to filibuster another Ginsburg or Breyer as tantamount to burning the Constitution.

After that, there is no way there would be 41 GOP Senators willing to do what Schumer is threatening to do now.
