Many owners of older TV sets who still receive free, over-the-air broadcasts are unaware that their sets will no longer function after Feb. 17, 2009 without a settop converter, lawmakers observed at a Washington D.C. hearing on Thursday.

The news will probably beef up reporting of this as the date approaches. Plus, some of the newer televisions already are able to show digital channels.
Will there be more channels, or just the same ones (for free)?

We got rid of our TV a few years ago, cable a few years b4 that. Now we use a 21” Computer monitor and a SVGA to VGA converter box for the little TV that we do watch.

All this worry just for teevee! It would be a great thing if they all went dark and people were to discover that there are other things to do besides look at teevee, like read, listen to talk radio, and actually become informed about what is going on in the world! That would foil Democrat plans for a socialist takeover!
Beware of government issued teevees. They will probably be designed to not be able to receive the Fox News Channel.
