BOISE, Idaho (AP) - The Boise State running back who scored the winning points in the Fiesta Bowl, then proposed to his cheerleader girlfriend on national television, says he has hired security for their wedding because of racial threats.
Ian Johnson, who is black, and Chrissy Popadics, who is white, are due to be married Saturday in Boise. Since his Jan. 1 proposal, Johnson said, he has received phone calls, letters and some personal threats from people who object to their marriage plans.
"You take it for what it is - the less educated, the less willing to change," Johnson, 21, of San Dimas, Calif., told the Idaho Statesman for its Tuesday editions. "But we're not acting like we're naive to all the stuff that's going on. We know what's been said. We're going to make sure we're safe at all times. It's an amazing day for us, and we'd hate to have it ruined by someone."
"It's really sad because a lot of people that are probably doing it are the same people who were cheering me on," Johnson said.

It is amazing...and, in reality, the place doesn’t reek with leftist nonsense...at least not in the Aspen, Co. sense.
We have friends who live in Ketchum and we are only a 3-hour drive so we visit fairly often. I like the place...thre are still a bunch of kind of funky, un-pretentious shops, bars, and cafes.
Cheers,
Not too much different than planning a trip to downstate Illinois thinking that it’s just like Chicago.
Man I feel old... you both look like teenagers! lol
I have a Boise State tee shirt that I wear down in Arizona where I work and every time I wear the thing someone makes a comment about the game.
I can imagine the difference.
I literally walked past Babs Streisand in Sun Valley. I decided to be nice and not say what was on my mind.
“we are all mixed race.. the whole concept of being 100% something is bogus..”
I’m 100% American which should be all that matters.
but it does. And it can be subtle yet still thoughtless.

I know how you feel. I saw Ted Turner not too long ago. He was here checking on his buffalo ranch (he calls them ‘bison’, Ha Ha). We were at the same event for about an hour, and my tongue was shredded from my biting it for so long. Same thing happened with Tiny Tom Daschle. I had real problems trying to be civil to him. I tried and failed. Oh, well.
Father went all the way through high school being taught in German by Roman Catholic nuns and mother is almost 100% Native American. I look as “white” as a slice of Wonder Bread except I “tan” a very deep red. Race just doesn’t matter to me. It’s character that counts. I have relatives in Georgia that are die-hard racists and Idaho is home to the Aryan Nations bunch as well as the Sword & Arm of the Lord crowd
Wouldn't that be "ONE of his buffalo ranches"?
Disgusting that a twisted segment of our society would do this.
1,466,465 people, of which 87% is White. Only 0.6% is Black.
Blacks make up around 13% of the US population.
Sounds like the Sooner fans are still bitter.
He’s no Denzel....whatever his color.
Why the abdolute dearth of white men with black women?
Utterly ridiculous. Some people never grow up.
Many of my black friends are either dating or married to white women.
I trust that in a generation or two, our racial lines will start to blur and hopefully gangsta culture will start to fade......
“I literally walked past Babs Streisand in Sun Valley.”
Something like that could ruin your whole vacation.
I am a product of a white father and black mother. There are couples like that out there. You just have to look hard to find them.
Anyway, the problem is that most men view black women a tad bit aggressive and thus not "feminine" enough.
Definitely the highlight of the evening.
