ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) -- A federal judge on Thursday struck down the city of Hazleton's tough immigration law, which has been emulated by cities around the country. The Illegal Immigration Relief Act sought to impose fines on landlords who rent to illegal immigrants and deny business permits to companies that give them jobs. Another measure would have required tenants to register with City Hall and pay for a rental permit.
It was pushed by Hazleton's Republican mayor last summer after two illegal immigrants were charged in a fatal shooting.
Hispanic groups and illegal immigrants sued in federal court to overturn the measures, saying they usurp the federal government's exclusive power to regulate immigration, deprive residents of their constitutional rights to equal protection and due process, and violate state and federal housing law.
Pathetic!
I knew this was too good to last. God forbid we hold lawbreakers and harborers of illegals accountable for their actions
You’d think AP could at least include the name of the Judge. bastards!
Sounds to me like we should then be able to sue these La Raza style groups under RICO.
City should countersue the federal government for failing to protect against foreign invasion.
A sad day for Justice.
PING!!
Illegals right to vote and run for office is just around the corner.
Who also won the Democrat primary as a write in, while being on the Republican ballot. That was something you don't see everyday.
That city should enforce it anyway.
America is at the mall. Few of us notice, or care.
The politicians and elite want this, and they want it bad.
Relax, we’re powerless.
Can’t find the judge’s name.
Too many more decisions like this and I am very fearful this will start to boil over and, God forbid, will start being settled in the streets.
The courts won’t give us the country back, they have it firmly in hand. Illegals have more rights and power than citizens and elected officials. It may mean we are finished.
I suspect you have drawn this conclusion without ever reading the local law at issue, the briefs, the record, or the precedent that the judge relied upon in making the decision. District Court judges are not supposed to make new law, rather they are supposed to follow judical precedent, even if they disagree with the end result, and let the appellate courts chart the course.
It’s time for some “Sons of Liberty”-style agitation. Only then will they listen.
< Liberal Whine > Good! Laws like that are just plain MEAN! < /Liberal Whine >
They’ll appeal it.
And I suspect you haven't even read the decision yourself, and yet, you're criticizeing me?
Men in black strike again.
