Three female mountain gorillas and a male silverback gorilla were found shot dead this week inside a national park in the Democratic Republic of Congo, a conservation group said Thursday.
The bodies were discovered inside Virunga National Park but it was unclear who killed them and why, the International Gorilla Conservation Program said in a statement.
"Just over 700 mountain gorillas survive in the wild today, and none exist in captivity," the group said. "For such a small population, the unnecessary and indiscriminate killing of four mountain gorillas is a huge loss."

I also hope he has no pets. And another poster asked if he would be happy if there were only people and no animals left. News for him: Iron Jack ain’t never gonna be happy. Where is Oscar the Cat when you really need him! But come to think of it, Oscar probably wouldn’t even go near him.
Ever hear of War Dogs? They have saved the lives of more than 10,000 US servicemen.
And their handlers would probably tell you that the animals have more humanity than most humans.
You opinion is, putting it nicely, very sick.
No, your tunnel vision shows. If you cannot spare a little sympathy for anything but an aborted baby, I seriously question your sympathy for that. You are more of a legalist, I believe.
And just exactly whom are “these people” that you are referring to?
And his family is starving and AIDS-ridden exactly why? Because he and his people before him are not capable of providing any sort of order or cleanliness, so they turn on the nearest thing and kill it for money.
To some people here, the poor, the sick (AIDS etc), and animals do not matter one bit.
A very sad commentary on them.

From a Christian standpoint (not necessarily ALL Christians' standpoint), you could be the one who is being perverted and weird, considering some animals to be worth more than others, or even considering some of them to be equal to humans.
And 'this modern age' is suuuuuch a stupid term. Did it occur to you that every present age is a modern age? And judging from the comments of liberals, it seem religious extremism in on the upswing in the United States these days.
Those gorillas are struggling to feed their kids too, while dodging bullets and snares. Most often they are killed so that their hands can be sold as “souvenirs”. They are often found with their hands cut off. Humans do this, and they’ve been doing it for a long time, to each other and to the gorillas and other primates and other very sentient family-oriented creatures like elephants. Maybe you should look into the eyes of a young, still-nursing gorilla, while it watches a gang of human thugs kill its mother, cut off her hands, and carry them off, leaving her mutilated body behind.
The human population on that continent is doomed and there’s nothing anyone can do to fix that. No amount of money, no amount of food and no amount of drugs will stop what’s happening.
The best thing we could do would be get the folks who aren’t infected out of there and let they or their descendants return once the epidemic has run it’s course.
You may not like it but that’s the reality of the situation.
Maybe so, but that doesn't mean the resource should be senselessly depleted into extinction.
I like hunting deer and moose, but also am active to protect the health and abundance of the herds so I can continue to hunt and eat them.
One stupid post begets another...
Whales are/were killed for food, oil. Gorilla's as I understand, were killed for novelty, and medicinal superstition, and even food in Africa.
Unfortunelty, whaling conservation was a little too late coming, which is really the only reason the populations fell into dangerously low levels, but still can recover. Try tell natives that they can't hunt wales, both a food and oil staple, and you'll have a pow wow on your doorstep. It's also a delicacy in Japan, a base for the perfume, cosmetics, and lotion industry. Gorillas can also recover, if given a chance. There's no reason why if they are allowed to recover that through conservation controls there can't be a limited harvest to supply a limited amount of product for those willing to pay. They'll get it illegally anyways, no matter how many laws banning it are made.

A change in twone there tunie.
Why don't you just come out and tell the viewing audience the identity or at least a few obvious personal characteristics about "these people" and quit hiding behind vague euphemisms?
That might make it easier for the rest of us to spot "these people" and make sure they don't take over anything in our country. Call it a public service toknee, you know, like pointing out a stormfront to your neighbors and FRiends...
Just because they look human-like doesn't mean they are. Similarities in dna doesn't mean anything either. A snake has a lot of simular DNA as well. there is no reason to doubt that the creator of all used the same principles and tools to create everything. Very few disease can cross the species barrier, and even then they have to mutate. (prionic diseases for example).
And I believe that plants are intelligent living things as well, and don't think people should just kill them indiscriminately and wear their "skins". Unregulated human activity makes these creatures extinct, in fact several go extinct every day...In fact I'm going to start spraying people with gren paint for wearing plant skins...

Ever hear of botulism? Carcinogens?
Don't believe everything you read.
AIDS is quickly fatal when untreated. Few Africans are treated effectively.
Therefore we should have already seen a massive die-off in Africa if the infection rates reported for the last 10-15 years are accurate. It is likely that 50% of the population would have died in less than a year, with continuing drops after that.
We haven't seen such a die-off.
Occam's Razor says that the reported infection rates are not accurate.
