Democrats Shift Tone On Abortion (Dems Head Fake Alert)
Los Angeles Times ^ | 07/26/2007 | Stephanie Simon

The leading Democratic presidential candidates are increasingly making that more nuanced case.

At a recent presidential forum, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York decried the failure of activists on both sides to work together to bring down the number of abortions. She repeated a mantra her husband made famous more than a decade ago: Abortion, she said, should be "safe, legal and rare."

Then Clinton paused and added deliberately: "And by rare, I mean rare."

The Democrats are shifting their tone, not their abortion stand. Safe and rare from Hillary Clinton. Guess from whom we heard that before. When it comes to abortion, the Democrats strategery appears to be a head fake. "How do we fool the voters some more?" By giving the impression: we just want choice, not necessarily abortion. They should run that sophistry by the public again.

Debate question: Would you nominate a Supreme Court justice who is pro-life?

Yes, this is an important change in tactics. If one reads pages 176-189 in The Political Brain by Drew Westen the nuanced approach to abortion is almost word for word what this article reports.

Westen has written a classic cook book with multiple recipes for RAT victory. Our side seems asleep at their posts and ignorant of what is happening.

What the RATS are about to do with the single issue voter is give them a "choice." Some pro-lifers are not fiscal conservatives by any means and will respond to "choice" by leaving the Pubbies and joining the RATS.

I accept abortion to save the life of the mother. But the Democrats don't mean "rare" the way you and I use the meaning of the term. For us, human life is sacred and the unborn should have rights. No one on the other side ever bothers to discuss whether its worth preserving THEIR lives.

The GOP field needs to start hacking on this one and not let up. It’s a great issue for us if we have some courage.

To Rats, giving out Plan B on the school lunch trays is a way to make what even they acknowledge as a real abortion rare.

Courage, and a Republican nominee who is also pro-life.

I'd welcome every GOP candidate to shoot at the Dims on this one. We need to remind people what the Xlintonian "safe, legal and rare" really means.

Romney's been on the attack on the Dims more than the others so I expect we'll hear it from him.

Fred could do a great job on this too. So could any of the others except the leftwing mayor who is a NARAL Champion Of Choice™.

Hillary ought to sue Rudy for plagarism on the abortion issue. Rudy’s schtick of “I reduced abortions in NYC” is exactly the same talking points that Hillary uses.
