A STATEMENT FROM SCOTT THOMAS BEAUCHAMP:
As we've noted in this space, some have questioned details that appeared in the Diarist "Shock Troops," published under the pseudonym Scott Thomas. According to Major Kirk Luedeke, a public affairs officer at Forward Operating Base Falcon, a formal military investigation has also been launched into the incidents described in the piece.
Although the article was rigorously edited and fact-checked before it was published, we have decided to go back and, to the extent possible, re-report every detail. This process takes considerable time, as the primary subjects are on another continent, with intermittent access to phones and email. Thus far we've found nothing to disprove the facts in the article; we will release the full results of our search when it is completed.
In the meantime, the author has requested that we publish the statement below. --The Editors
I am Private Scott Thomas Beauchamp, a member of Alpha Company, 1/18 Infantry, Second Brigade Combat Team, First Infantry Division.
My pieces were always intended to provide my discreet view of the war; they were never intended as a reflection of the entire U.S. Military. I wanted Americans to have one soldier's view of events in Iraq.
It's been maddening, to say the least, to see the plausibility of events that I witnessed questioned by people who have never served in Iraq. I was initially reluctant to take the time out of my already insane schedule fighting an actual war in order to play some role in an ideological battle that I never wanted to join. That being said, my character, my experiences, and those of my comrades in arms have been called into question, and I believe that it is important to stand by my writing under my real name.
--Private Scott Thomas BeauchampMy Diarist, "Shock Troops," and the two other pieces I wrote for the New Republic have stirred more controversy than I could ever have anticipated. They were written under a pseudonym, because I wanted to write honestly about my experiences, without fear of reprisal. Unfortunately, my pseudonym has caused confusion. And there seems to be one major way in which I can clarify the debate over my pieces: I'm willing to stand by the entirety of my articles for the New Republic using my real name.
Hey you!
Don’t worry about this clown, JD should be over there now and we had him handled over here. You have enough to deal with there.
This is not Vietnam and we’re not going to let the Socialist Shadow Party get away with what they did the last time.
P.S. A moment of silence to thank Al Gore... for creating the internet... carry on. /s
First of all, someone sent this to me after 12:01 am via email, they did something with the time. I have the copy i my email and copied his whole blog since the other blog had gone blank and thought they would pull a Kos (re: Killitary Story), and pull the original from TNR.
Dean Barnett found out about it, i’m sure sent it to milbloggers, who then by field and location checked it out.
If you go to Deans, Mudville, Blackfive and other blogs, you will see all the email responses sent in from Germany and Iraq, experts on Brads, sensitive site workers (re: mass graves), those who took descriptions of areas and construction noted and those who remembered hearing the skull story from Afghanistan (German soldiers last year, DerSpeigel, remember he was in Germany), attempting to ID the female IED victim and all other points.
Roger that. And thank you, 1SG Hadley, for being one of the good guys.
Thanks for the ping ~ I was replying and couldn’t remember who pinged me! LOL
Good info and background. Thanks.
That is exactly why I hate PVT. Beauchamp's stunt so much. He smeared the good name of these soldiers and brought shame to the reputation of his unit and the Army.
There is a special place in hell for a man like that.
Remember, this useless idiot is a leftist and anyone who does not agree with him does not "deserve" a voice and must be "silenced". So saith the leftist idols of Marx, Stalin, Hitler, Mao, Saddam, and the "fairness doctrine".
Amen!
Good info.
I wrote a lot on “Flopping Aces” and here about this 'useful idiot'. I chaptered more than a few kids with superiority issues like this fool while in troop command. He already seems to have been busted once (his rank is PV2 but he stated he was a PFC at one point). He gave out exact deployment information on Myspace also.
He is a liar and scum. A letter written by his 1SG on another blog pretty much states he is the Company F-Up and has given his unit no end of troubles with his antics and fantasies.
He is scum and the TNR and their agenda are worse than scum.
Hi! And thanks. You guys back home ROCK. :-)
You've got that right. I want to see him get what he has coming to him.
And I'm disappointed that TNR seems to be getting a free pass in the media, but certainly not surprised.
I'd love that!
But Michael Yon's been hanging out in Baqouba and this POS claims to be in Baghdad.

This was posted 5 Sep 06. Don't know if it still works, but will find out.
If this (below) is his blog (it certainly appears to be), it is quite clear that he enlisted in this war that he despises in order to “write a book” — here we have a liberal college twit who was a Dean campaign activist and editor-in-chief of his campus leftist magazine, who despises the war and everything and everyone associated with it, yet he enlists in a time of the volunteer military with the explicit goal of “chasing down the muse” by seeking authorial fame and glory. I’ve seen no indications that they guy can actually write worth a damn, but it’s become clear from various blog posts in his e-trail that he came at the army with a left-wing agenda to trash the military and secure his writing career among moonbats.

“ghosts scared too”
http://ghostsonfilm.blogspot.com/2006/05/ghosts-scared-too.html
“....I know that NOT participating in a war (and such a misguided one at that) should be considered better than wanting to be in one just to write a book...but you know, maybe id rather be a good man than a good artist...be both? Some can and some cant...i guess it all depends on how great an artist, or how great a man they want to be. Sometimes it feels like i have to choose between being totally loyal to thoughts of my future family OR totally loayl to chasing down the muse.”
I added that to my Instant Messaging client. If it’s still an active account, I’ll just get a little alert if he pops online.
Let me know if it does.
Thanks for the ping!
It’s not nice to PLAGIARIZE!
Will we now have to search the World Wide Web for any other words you may have taken and used as your own?
I’m still here and it is HOT outside these days
1 I’m thinking there might be a correlation between how hot it is and the temp. It appears the higher the temp., the hotter it is.
/firm grasp of the obvious
2 I blame the Cheney/Bush/Rumsfeld/Haliburton global warming machine (Pat. Pend.). Before The 2000 Bush coup it was never hot in the summer in Iraq.
