Murtha pushes new troop withdrawal plan
By ANNE FLAHERTY, Associated Press Writer 3 minutes ago
A leading Democratic House Iraq war critic said Wednesday he'll soon push legislation that would order U.S. troop withdrawals to begin in two months and predicted Republicans will swing behind it this time.
A vote on Rep. John Murtha's proposal likely will come in September, when Iraq commander Gen. David Petraeus delivers a long-anticipated assessment on the war and members of Congress weigh some $600 billion in defense spending requested by President Bush.
Under his plan, Murtha, a close ally of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, said that he envisions troop withdrawals to start in November and take about a year to complete.
The House has passed similar proposals in the past, including one that Bush vetoed. But Murtha said he predicts this vote will be different because of mounting voter frustration with the war and a lack of progress in Iraq.
"This is big time," Murtha, D-Pa., told reporters of the upcoming war debate in September. "When you get to September, this is history. This is when we're going to have a real confrontation with the president trying to work things out."
Bush has not given any indication he is open to a dramatic shift or a major redeployment of troops after September. He instead has talked at length about the need to remain engaged in Iraq to fight al-Qaida and has repeatedly appealed to lawmakers for more patience.

Bush would be wise to devote energy to laying out the successes in a prime time speech with other administration officials speaking up. I"m not sure anyone would bother to watch any more. Maybe Bush should YouTube it military style. He could present an all star lineup. We should hear from General P directly and not just news clips of him getting grilled by Democrats. It would also be nice to hear about or see some high placed Iraqi military people and hear their assessment. The Iraqi military has no face to the Americans except that of the keystone cops. And as far as the politicians go, the Democrats have them wind surfing on vacation while "Rome" burns. There's no appreciation for the risks these people are taking. And because the violence appears "endless" on our televisions, Americans assume Iraqis "aren't ready" for Democracy. It would be nice to hear from them why they think they are ready.
Or maybe Bush will just declare success and announce some troop withdrawals. He could deploy some to Darfur just to distract the moonbats and their media from the race to get out of Iraq. That might at least buy him enough time in Iraq to stabilize the place until the end of his term.

It shouldnt be too much longer now before the old fart comes to work with his underpants on the outside.
LOL!!! Now that's funny! Murtha is trying to make himself relevant again. After proclaiming the Haditha Marines were cold-blooded murderers, he got a little heat when LCpl Justin Sharratt's charges were recommended for dismissal. The father of Justin Sharratt had a half-hour conversation with Murtha. He is calling for Murtha to be censured by the House. Anybody who's interested, give Justin's father a kudo's here

This is really big time stuff as blurtha said. They are getting scared shitless as to where they are going to find the billions of dollars to continue paying off the social receipents in this country that vote for them. Millions depend on the democrates to give them money so that they can buy fancy cloths, shiny cars, continue to pump out large numbers of little ones, etc..
The GWOT is preventing them from allocating more money from the total pie in order to pay their followers. Could get real nasty.
