Terrorist Boy Scouts?

7/25/2007

Let me say up front: I am not making this up.

There's a Boy Scout camp in Colorado where they've taught gun safety and target shooting for years. Well, when some newcomer neighbors complained about it, the county sheriff there likened the place to a "Hamas training camp."

Elbert County Sheriff William Frangis, who's testified in favor of gun bans in Denver on multiple occasions, now has the Boy Scouts in his sights.

So, what were the Scouts doing that caused all the commotion?

Shooting sporting clays during a two-day fundraiser.

Yeah, I know: So what?

The Peaceful Valley Scout Ranch has had a shooting range for rifles and pistols for years. No one ever complained about it before.

But as the anti-gun granola crowd has moved out of the cities to find trees to hug and people to boss around, the Boy Scouts of Peaceful Valley have found themselves under attack.

Instead of doing the neighborly thing and going directly to the Scouts with their complaint, these new busybody neighbors complained to the cops. And, being that Sheriff Frangis seems to hate the Second Amendment, he was only too happy to help.

So when the Scout camp tried to get a permit from the county commissioners to continue shooting on the range, Sheriff Frangis-and those nay-saying neighbors-were there to shut them down.

Frangis warned of lead shot. He spoke ominously of seeing people smoking cigarettes near so-called "stockpiles of ammunition."

One activist said, "It was like World War III had started."

Who are these people?

A county sheriff ought to know that, as far as environmental hazards go, the lead on a shooting range isn't much of a threat.

A county sheriff ought to know that shotgun shells won't suddenly explode in a fireball just because somebody is smoking a cigarette nearby.

A county sheriff ought to know that the Boy Scouts are an important organization that does a lot of good for our country and our kids.

And he shouldn't liken them to terrorists just to grab headlines for his own anti-gun agenda. Audio stream (MP3 file): Download

We took our older Scouts on a wilderness survival weekend campout.

On Friday night we watched the movie “Red Dawn”. The two best lines in the movie: “What are Eagle Scouts? An elite paramilitary organization.” and “Boys, AVENGE ME!” The boys were repeating those lines all weekend.

Then we got them up at 4:00 AM and rushed them out into the woods without their gear.

Years later, these (now young men) still say this was the best Scout activitiy we ever did.

I went to one of those Colorado Boy Scout camps and would call the sHERRIF A liar. It sounds more like a group of anti American activists are trying to stop one of America’s leading patriotic organizations. Where do these anti-American sheriffs come from. The guy is probably a follower of Ward Churchill.

Either this gets stopped here or it will become ‘law’ across the land - and then the 4-H rifle clubs, etc.

If the rats are successful in shutting them down - it will spread like wildfire, much harder to douse.

Let’s freep ‘em

The really frightening thing is that this moron (sheriff) carries a gun on a daily basis. Really, folks that stupid should be rounded up and placed in the local basket weaving academy where they can’t annoy the rest of us.

As a long-time Scouter I agree with what people are saying here. However, it is very definitely against BSA rules to use tobacco on their properties and/or in front of youth. That goes for everyone, whether in uniform or not.

Obviously the sherrif needs to be educated. If they were a Hamas training camp it would be okay. After all, the Palistinian people have been oppressed and deserve to train in the use of deadly force to overthrow the evil Jewish state.

No, he should have likened them to a paramilitary militia unit training for the overthrow of our country. It is obvious that is what they are doing.. </sarc>

It sure is, and I have a hard time believing that someone would have gotten away with doing it at summer camp. I have been to many camps in several states (Texas, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, Colorado, Arkansas) and at none of those camps was anyone allowed to smoke in front of the kids. I bet it is a rumor started just to get the smoking nazis over on his side.

Sounds like an attempt at "deprevation of rights under the color of law" to me.

Anyone who would equate the Boy Scouts to terrorists has an obvious screw loose.

This is a two-fer for those pig neo-Stalinists.

They can grab guns and muddy up the “American-Nazi Youth League” (as our local dyke feminist spokespig refers to the BSA) all at the same time.

Kind of reminds me of this urban legend:

This is an extract of an National Public Radio (NPR) interview between a female broadcaster and US Army Lieutenant General Reinwald about sponsoring a Boy Scout Troop on his military installation.

Interviewer: "So, LTG Reinwald, what are you going to do with these young boys on their adventure holiday?"

LTG Reinwald: "We're going to teach them climbing, canoeing, archery, and shooting."

Interviewer: "Shooting! That's a bit irresponsible, isn't it?"

LTG Reinwald: "I don't see why, they'll be properly supervised on the range."

Interviewer: "Don't you admit that this is a terribly dangerous activity to be teaching children?"

LTG Reinwald: "I don't see how, we will be teaching them proper range discipline before they even touch a firearm."

Interviewer: "But you're equipping them to become violent killers."

LTG Reinwald: "Well, you're equipped to be a prostitute, but you're not one, are you?"

End of the interview

Far west Texas. Jeff Bezos has bought a bigass ranch out there for his space activities. People I know there have said kalifornia types are buying up a lot of property in the area.
