By the end of this decade or shortly thereafter, television networks as we know them today will cease to exist. After the '08 elections, evening network news broadcasts will end.

Dan Rather, who last month accused broadcast networks of dumbing down and tarting up their newscasts, said he can foresee a time when media company executives retreat from evening news production. I think well see the time when someone at the top says, We can give this time back to affiliates, Mr. Rather said Monday in a discussion with TelevisionWeek Publisher and Editorial Director Chuck Ross at the Cable & Telecommunications Association for Marketing convention in Washington.

I would like to build something that lasts in terms of integrity, Mr. Rather said. That has to be the most BS-laden statement I have ever read.

Hey, maybe Rather is going to bring in Rush Limbaugh in order to infuse some integrity into his liddle news program?
Of course for TOTAL integrity, he would have to leave and get Brit Hume to team up with Limbaugh.
Say, the Hume-Limbaugh Report has a ring to it.
Could be even bigger than Huntley-Brinkley!

Thats how many of us have seen this for the past few years.
Many don’t realize just how expensive it is putting on a nightly news program. They are huge ‘loss leaders’ to say the least.

After the '08 elections, evening network news broadcasts will end. Then, the nets will let the locals run their dribble and repeats, or they will have more so called reality dance, singing, whatever talent shows.

Just another celebrity story.
In other news, Lindsay Lohan got busted on another DUI, and Britney flashed the paparazzi again - but this time she’s got on underwear.

"Mr." Rather is still a clueless buffoon and commie butt kisser! Dumbing down??? He set the standard.
Maybe the geniuses at cbs figgered since they were able to lock down a solid 3rd place with Captain Dan, ANYTHING would have been an improvement. Guess they were wrong. Can you say "bad to worse"???

The tendency is to dumb it down and sleaze it up, Mr. Rather said,
When I turned it off this morning, FoxNews was actually running a Lohan Alert over a guy talking about al-Qaeda terrorists.
Gotta admit that Dan is right, not only on network news, but on the cable news as well. Some of FoxNew's blondettes can't even read the teleprompter without screwing up news items.
