I find it difficult to believe that America could be “Morally Paralyzed” if not for the daily doses of disinformation, and/or misplaced priorities of news and information presented as truth by our MSM.
Americans need to know, otherwise we as a Nation are “Morally Paralyzed”.

Sowell BTT. Always good.
The Iranian leaders are not going to stop unless they get stopped. And, like Hitler, they don't think we have the guts to stop them.
They are correct.

"Nuclear weapons in the hands of Iran and its international terrorist allies will be a worst threat than Hitler ever was. But, before that happens, the big question is: Are we France? Are we morally paralyzed, perhaps fatally?" Great question. The answer is yes. Immediately following 9/11, we couldn't even stop immigration from countries who harbor terrorists, AND build a fence across our southern border. Too many people seem to think, we had no right to protect ourselves, because taking such protective measures would not have been "nice."
As much as it may be warranted, with the ongoing war in Iraq, the United States will NOT stand up to Iran.

It's easy to identify a problem. And, it's even easier when you know the answer to the problem.
In other words, the author identifies the problem with Iran, yet, offers nothing to solve the problem.
Similar arguments (ahem, problems) could be made in the context of North Korea and China.

Sowell overlooks an important reason for this “moral paralysis”. Anti-Semitism was the Nazis’ unsecret weapon. It was not only that it made traitors for the Nazis, which it did, but more: anybody who proposed to resist Nazi aggression had to face the accusation of being a tool of the Jews. Attention was largely diverted from the fact that the Nazis were the enemies not only of the Jews, but of civilization. I mention this because in this respect also, history is repeating itself.

Sewell makes so much sense with his parallels between then and now. I just wonder why so many in this country cannot see the handwriting on the wall as well?

Unlike Germany, Iran knows that war with the US will bring its defeat. So what does it want that it doesn’t already have? Yes, a long drawn out solution to the ME crisis where Israel is pushed into the sea, but that too will bring Iran gasping to its knees.
It wants sex on TV as a way to stave off its incompetence... so America should broadcast the latest “Sex in the City” to save Tehran.

P.S I still love you, Mr. Sowell. You’re one of the few that tell it like it is.

As an aside, the Bush administration is looking to work with Iran as a "partner" to provide security and stability in Iraq: I am wondering just what planet I'm living on... This is like the farmer working with the fox to ensure security and stability in the hen house! Unbelievable!

Moral Clarity BUMP !
This ping list is not author-specific for articles I'd like to share. Some for the perfect moral clarity, some for provocative thoughts; or simply interesting articles I'd hate to miss myself. (I don't have to agree with the author all 100% to feel the need to share an article.) I will try not to abuse the ping list and not to annoy you too much, but on some days there is more of the good stuff that is worthy of attention. You can see the list of articles I pinged to lately on my page.
You are welcome in or out, just freepmail me (and note which PING list you are talking about). Besides this one, I keep 2 separate PING lists for my favorite authors Victor Davis Hanson and Orson Scott Card.

We know that Iran is moving swiftly toward nuclear weapons while the United Nations is moving slowly -- or not at all -- toward doing anything to stop them. It is a sign of our irresponsible Utopianism that anyone would even expect the UN to do anything that would make any real difference.
Thank you Dr Sowell. I don't think the President will leave this for the next administration to deal with.

Look at TV.
There’s a concerted EFFORT to remove shame, conscience, courtesy, etc. These are the internal guideposts that lead to behavior. By stomping on individual contemplation and doing what’s right, this leaves the door open to group-think.
