"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
I have lived in the Detroit area all my life and there is nothing like it except the abandoned towns around Chernobyl. Take a look on Google Earth. Its shocking...
Detroit is a third world enclave in the middle of America complete with its own tin pot dictator. Whole neighborhoods of burned out and abandoned houses, giant car factories that havent built a car since the ‘70s, a magnificent train station designed by the same architects that designed NYC’s Grand Central Station stripped of every last scrap that could be stolen or just smashed in an orgy of spite.
I once visited a thrift store in the north of the city (On 8-mile) and there was a stripped Ford Taurus furiously burning in the middle of the parking lot. A dead German Shepard rotted a few feat away. No fire department. No Police. 25 people walked right past the scene without doing anything. Cars came and went like nothing was happening. It was surreal. I did get a nice Commodore PET though...
And in Hamtramick, you can hear the “Call to prayer” booming from the Mosque through giant loud speakers like its Mecca...
Money quote!
Motor City is burning (Al Smith / MC-5 )
Ya know, the Motor City is burning babe,
there ain't a thing in the world that they can do.
Ya know, the Motor City is burning people,
there ain't a thing that white society can do.
Ma home town burning down to the ground,
worser than Vietnam.
Let me tell you how it started now ...
it started on 12th & Clairmount that morning.
It made the pig cops all jump & shout,
Ah said, it started on 12th & Clairmount that morning,
It made the pigs in the street freak out.
The fire wagons kept comin', baby,
but the black Panther snipers wouldn't let them put it out, wouldn't let them put it out, wouldn't let them put it out.
Guitar solo "get it on ... "
Well, there were fire bombs bursting all around, people, Ya know there were soldiers standing everywhere.
I said there was fire bombs bursting all around me, baby, Ya know there was National Guard everywhere.
Ah can hear my people screaming.
Sirens fill the air, fill the air, fill the air.
Guitar solo
Your mama papa don't know what the trouble is . ..
you see, they don't know what it's all about.
Ah said, your mama papa don't know what the trouble is, baby, they just can't see what it's all about.
Read the news, read the newspapers, baby?
You just get out there in the street and check it out!
Guitar solo
Ah said, the Motor City is burning, people,
I ain't hanging round to fight it out.
Ah said, the Motor City is burning, people,
just not hang around to fight it out.
Well, I'm taking my wife and my people and ???
Well, just before I go, baby, ???? ,
firemans on the street, people all around,
Now, I guess it's true,
I'd just like to strike a match for freedom myself,
I may be a white boy, but I can be bad, too.
Yes, it's true now, yes, it's true now.
Guitars, end
"Let it all burn! Let it all burn!"
Offer the city to the USMC for training. Hell it’s in the future anyways!!

They should make them rename city as Starnesville. No renaming, no aid.
Out of 2,008,000 people in Wayne County (Detroit is about half of that number), 868,000 voted in 2004 (70% for John Kerry). That has got to be nearly every available adult.
Very civic minded folks...
I have had that same experience in Detroit, and it is very weird indeed. In the middle of a 'business day' on a main street in downtown outside the City offices, and no traffic --- few people on the streets and beautiful old office buildings, completely vacant.
Aside from welfare and official political graft/extortion, there ain't no there - there.
They should elect Matt Millen mayor-he’s done a great job with the Lions turning the city of Detroit around would be a piece of cake. (sarcasm)

I edited / wrote a good chunk of the Wikipedia account (above).
Very, very sad.
Also, check out the Malice Green Wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malice_Green. My fingerprints are all over that one too.
It’s axiomatic that the Left never admits its mistakes. Hillary was probably a cheerleader for the rioters.
Ninety-five posts, and no “New Fallujah” references?
Snake Plissken would be afraid to go to Detriot.
I hear Jeff Daniels talk about this all the time. Once there is a theatre on every corner everything will be all right.
The suburbs can be pretty nice, though, and that's where the jobs went, too. The trend is to have the jobs be where it's impossible to get to by public transportation, because you do NOT want the applications of people who need public transport
Speaking of Motown, Berry Gordy got the hell out of there quickly after those riots, didn’t he?
In America, when a city collapses under the weight of racial violence supported by racial politcal corruption, we call it Detroit.
Serious question: given how far Detroit has fallen, what will it look like 20 years hence?

I remember one black talk-radio show host saying that while he’d served
a hitch in the US Army...
“I did my real tour of duty when I worked in Detroit for a couple of years.”
That was Ken Hamblin (sp?); sadly his career took a hit when he
got accussed of taking liberties with a lady co-worker...
