Newt Gingrich goes nuclear: May enter race to foil 'pygmies'
San Francisco Examiner ^ | July 23, 2007 | Bill Sammon

Posted on 07/23/2007 2:21:48 PM PDT by Chicos_Bail_Bonds

WASHINGTON - Dismissing the GOP presidential field as a "pathetic" bunch of "pygmies," Newt Gingrich hinted Monday he might step in to beat Democrats Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama.

"If, in mid-October, it's quite clear that one or more of the current candidates is strong enough to be a serious alternative to a Clinton-Obama ticket, you don't need me to run," the former House Speaker said at a breakfast sponsored by the American Spectator. "If it becomes patently obvious, as the morning paper points out, that the Democrats have raised a hundred million more than the Republicans, and at some point people decide we are going to get Hillary unless there's a radical change, then there's space for a candidate," he added. "So you'll know by mid-October one of those two futures is real."

Asked by the Examiner if he was prepared to commit to a run, Gingrich said, "I'm perfectly happy to do what I do," he said. "Whether that leads to the presidency is the country's problem, not mine."

Gingrich mocked Republican presidential candidates for subjecting themselves to a May debate hosted by Chris Matthews of MSNBC's "Hardball."

"You're watching an utterly irrelevant, shallow television celebrity dominate everybody who claimed they want to lead the most powerful nation in the world," he said.

Gingrich ridiculed "the idea of 10 or 11 people standing passively at microphones," and said he refused to "shrink to the level of 40-second answers, standing like a trained seal, waiting for someone to throw me a fish."

He added: "These are not debates, these are auditions. By definition, the psychology of an audition reduces the person auditioning and raises the status, for example, of Chris Matthews."

You have no chance in hell of winning a general election... and if you think differently... you ain’t as bright as they say.

He is delusional. He is a visionary and conservatives in the USA will always be grateful to him. Executive leadership he does not have.

I like Hunter, he is right on almost every issue. But he has been out in the congress for years and has never really stood out.

I think he has missed the boat. Perhaps I am wrong, maybe he can catch, but right now, given where we are over all, I am going for the win.

Newt is delusional. With his baggage, he couldn't beat Bugs Bunny.

Isn’t it amazing? We can scarcely get one decent guy to apply for the most important job in the world at the most important time?
<p
And the one being recruited won’t even turn his application in!

Any respect I had for Newt G. has petered away like sand in an hour glass. Actually, it’s more like a good flush in an old toilet. Buh-by, Newt.

I think some of it stems from the lack of executive experience that Giuliani and Romney have

Romney was a governor and Rudy was a Mayor of the biggest city in the nation. What executive experience does Newt or Duncan have.

If Newt really thinks he’s the man to beat those two, he should run now.

On the other hand, I see no reason to think he’d have any chance at all of beating ANY of the democrats, including Mike Gravel. Nor do I think he’d be a particularly good President.

He’s a great speaker though, on the rare occasions when he actually takes the RIGHT side of an issue anymore.

Upon more reflection, another thought is how arrogant this statement sounds..

I loved Newt when he was using C-SPAN and "special orders" to brilliantly eviscerate the Left and make the conservative case.

But it has been all downhill from there.

Newt is still smart and entertaining, up to a point. But he is sooooo arrogant, as you noted. Hopeless so. Cluelessly so. He makes such comments and looks around like a four-year-old who just made a puppy yelp and now expects applause.

To use one of his own favorite turns of phrase, he must be the most arrogant smarty-pants on the planet.

“Gingrich/Hunter is my preferred ticket.”

This is one of very few GOP tickets that would lose to Hillary. Is that what you prefer?

I know. It would be so easy to say to yourself that no way do I want to go through that. I don’t agree with W on everything but what they’ve done to him - and us in the process - is beyond belief. Surrendering in a war just to oppose the President! Treason isn’t beyond them. This is what awaits the next Republican President.

I for one...hope its Newt!He has the smarts, cajones, and vocabulary to take those idiots down.

Newt's only serious leadership experience, as Speaker, was an unmitigated disaster. His personal behavior, before and since, has been egregious.

Shut up, Newt. You're among the pygmies.
