American support for the war in Iraq has risen somewhat as the White House has continued to ask the public to reserve judgment about the war until General David Petraeus files his report in the fall. In a New York Times/CBS News poll conducted over the weekend, 42 percent of Americans said taking military action in Iraq was the right thing to do, while 51 percent said the United States should have stayed out of Iraq. Support had been at all time low in May, when only 35 percent of Americans said the United States involvement in Iraq was the right thing and 61 percent said the United States should have stayed out. Still, the latest poll made clear that a two-thirds majority of Americans continue to say the war is going badly. However, the number of people who say the war is going very badly has fallen from 45 percent earlier in July to a current reading of 35 percent, and of those who say it is going well, 29 percent now describe it as somewhat well compared to 23 percent just last week.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said he agreed with Townsend that the U.S. should consider going after al-Qaida militarily “wherever they are.”
“We have the NIE report, which just came out, that says al-Qaida during this administration is stronger than ever. I don’t think we should take anything off the table. Wherever we find these evil people we should go get them,” Reid said.
..................Somehow that comment stuck with me over the weekend as tickled my hypocritically sensitive funny bone (HRSB).

When the US succeeds in Iraq, the Democrats are toast. No they won't be. They'll just portray themselves as "for the troops" all the way and all they wanted was for them to succeed and come home safely.......

I think the ones that haven’t supported the war are starting to change their minds because they don’t want their liberal candidate declaring defeat and being stuck with the title. They’ve been pushing President Bush to declare defeat for this reason but are now convinced that ain’t happening on his watch so they’ll allow a victory but return back to the,”see how he screwed it up until we made him change course”.

The results would vary depending on whether they are Sunni, Shiite, or Kurd.

Put another 30,000 troops along the Iranian/Syrian borders and watch things improve even faster.

The dems are going to have to pull off something really big to distract the half conscious from the success against the terrorists.

Most of us here tend to be "none of the above." ;-)

But we’re stretched thin so maybe a double layer fence with landmines in between would be a good substitute?

How do we prove we’ve succeeded? Because the Dems are going to play that card - you’ve failed...failed...failed...blah blah. They’ve been playing it from the first two weeks of the invasion (Peter Arnett, anyone?). How do you prove success?

When the US succeeds in Iraq, the Democrats are toast. Yup. And that's why they can't afford even the perception of success there. So, they're bound to claim it's a disaster, no matter what really happens.
To: tobyhill
Actually, I heard the major problem is that the Iraqis want to be in charge of border security and they rely heavily on trade from Syria and Iran.
