It was hard to believe we were in Laguna Beach - response from the passersby by was enthusiastic and overwhelmingly positive. The counter protester were limited to the local kids, most of whom left early. Two Department of Justice personnel were there - they said they have been assigned to "mediate all Minuteman rallies.' Not sure what that was all about but there were three police officers there the whole time and they ran a tight ship - keeping the counter protesters away and making sure there was no illegal parking or jay walking.
DOJ Personnel in the second and fourth photos.
The sign that reads, “Day labor site closed by order of Minutemen” says it all. There is arrogance here that needs to be squashed. Who exactly gave the Minutemen the authority to ORDER anyone to do anything?
You can’t be serious. These people are protesting in public. They’re there to be seen. Observing them is hardly warrantless spying. LOL!
I don’t know what it’s like in Mexico but in America the federal government is not supposed to spy on citizens.
I don’t believe they are DOJ - they are probably illegal aliens with stolen T-shirts.
In America, it's not spying to watch people engaged in public activities. If you have a parade, people can show up to watch, even the DOJ. If you stage a protest, people can show up to watch, even the DOJ.
I can't believe I actually have to explain this. The protests are staged to get attention. The protesters are ASKING FOR ATTENTION. LOL! Are you seriously contending that certain people can't watch, because they might work for someone you don't like? LOL. This is hillarious.

Exposing and Preventing FBI Spying
Responding to ACLU FOIA requests filed in 20 states on behalf of more than 150 organizations and individuals, the government has released documents that reveal FBI monitoring and infiltration by the FBI and local law enforcement, targeting political, environmental, anti-war and faith-based groups.
Our clients include advocates for the environment, animal rights, labor, religion, Native American rights, fair trade, grassroots politics, peace, social justice, nuclear disarmament, human rights and civil liberties. When the FBI invades the privacy of political and religious groups in the name of fighting terrorism, it abuses our trust and threatens our freedom. The public deserves to know who is being investigated and why.
The real arrogance is DoJ dipsticks showing up to attempt to intimidate American citizens with their presence rather than checking the area for illegal aliens. That's the arrogance that needs to be squashed.
The Minutemen, as American citizens, do not require DoJ approval or yours when it comes to shutting down an illegal alien operation.
You don't like it?
Tough.
Exactly right, Czar.
ILLEGALS ARE "operating outside the law" and so is the government by not enforcing the law.
Who exactly gave the Minutemen the authority to ORDER anyone to do anything?
Uh....the 2nd Amendment:
Amendment II: A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.
How intimidating is an unarmed woman in a polo shirt? I don't think they showed up to intimidate anyone.
The Minutemen, as American citizens, do not require DoJ approval or yours when it comes to shutting down an illegal alien operation.
I'm going to make it point to use one of my days off from my regular job to show up at a day labor site, and hire myself out one of these days, and just pray that some yahoo tries to stop me.
In case the subtlty of the above escaped you: Prove that it's an illegal operation. Prove that American citizens of Mexican descent and legal immigrants aren't the ones using this site.
And there is thin-skinned wussiness in Melas's post that needs to be lampooned. Who exactly gave Melas the authority to ORDER anyone about what they can or cannot post on a protest sign?
You squash, we'll squash back. Capiche?
There to mediate? It appears they are just standing around, in yacht party attire.
I wonder if they'd make public a copy of their report on this event.

Cool! Leave your ID @ home. Maybe you can get caught up in one of our dog and pony deportation raids, get deported to the land you love, and live the good life hiking back across the desert, get caught again by one of our un-incarcerated Border Patrol Agents, and start the cycle all over again. That would be worth the price of a ticket. Let me know when the show starts. I live in Montana and need some lead time. Thanks! Blackbird.
Don't confuse things for one moment. I'm not suggesting than anyone squash a post on FR. Keep'm coming.
I'm suggesting something more up close and personal at one of these protests where some guy with a sign decides he has the authority to start telling anyone else what to do.
You aren't suggesting that merely having the appearance of being Mexican is enough to bring about trouble are you? Nah, I know you couldn't be suggesting anything like that, because this isn't about race. I know it's not about race because you guys keep swearing it's not about race...between veiled racial comments.
Btw, I'm scots-irish and native American as in Cherokee, and yes, I'm often mistaken for a Mexican.
And what pray tell, will you do?
In case the subtlty of the above escaped you: Prove that it's an illegal operation. Prove that American citizens of Mexican descent and legal immigrants aren't the ones using this site.
If you really think...that a majority of American citizens are using these sites.....you appear to be very misguided/mistaken/blinded.
When you know that Arabs flew airplanes into the trade towers, murdering over 3,000 in one day. It would be, and is, pretty dumb to go after blond haired, blue-eyed grannies. Much the same as it would be to believe that of the 24 MILLION ILLEGALS IN THIS COUNTRY, most of whom are from Mexico, look like White Anglo Saxon Protestants....but you knew that, didn't you? Because you see, this isn't about a "race thing" it's about a LAW ENFORCEMENT thing.

And loyal American conservatives will be hoping that your prayers are answered. In the meantime, we'll try real hard not to quake in our boots.
"Prove that it's an illegal operation."
Prove that it's legal to encourage and entice illegal alien lawbreakers with Day Laborer Sites. I'll be looking for your response.
In case you haven't noticed, Americans are fed up with the illegal alien problem and are making their voices heard in Washington. While the recent crashing and burning of S.1639 may have somehow escaped your notice, the pro-illegal alien/amnesty crowd isn't having much success lately.
I may have neglected to mention it earlier, but FR is a conservative site for conservatives. The open borders types who used to infect this site are pretty much gone, either voluntarily or with some help. In other words, if you're an open borders/illegal alien enthusiast, you're likely to be somewhat lonely.
People who are pro open borders/illegal alien enthusiasts generally fall into one or both of two groups--they either have an ethnic interest or an economic interest. Occasionally, we find some who don't fit into either group but simply don't care all that much about protecting national sovereignty and securing the borders, nor are they interested in protecting American culture, customs, traditions and the english language.
Which are you?
Yeah : )
mexicans came out of the woodwork in white t’s
to make themselve known in my area last year.
if they do the same this year it might explode in their faces
with the voters in 2008.
