With Mother's Day approaching, Shaun Kranish needed a gift, so he strapped on his unloaded semiautomatic 9 mm pistol and left his Rockford home to do some shopping.

During his May 2006 trip to CherryVale Mall in Cherry Valley, Kranish put the 15-round magazine into a separate pouch on the holster, where he could easily reach it if necessary.

Kranish, 21, picked up some tea for his mother, ate pizza at the food court, then noticed two security guards warily following him. Taken into custody, he was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, a felony.

Illinois is NOT a RTC state.

Neither is Wisconsin, much to our ever lasting shame. Wisconsin and Illinois are in a race to see which state will be the last to adopt CCW policy. We both suffer from overly liberal democRAT governors. Wisconsin has come within one vote of overturning our governor's veto and that vote had been pro CCW in the first polling. It is also the vote of the assembly man from my district (this WILL change w/ the next election!)

HOW DID MALL SECURITY SEE THE GUN ON HIM

He was wearing a holster with a mag pocket openly strapped to his leg. The holster totally covered the gun. He was apparently trying to make a point about "transporting" a gun in a closed container.

I personally think it a weak argument and destined to land him in hot water.

I have had a cop friend tell me that “carrying” is what separates us from them. I have come to the conclusion that it’s a genital problem with some...mines bigger than yours.

Those who succumb to creating a crime scene without self protection in mind are the criminals. The law abiding citizen holds fire till the whites of the eyes of the one wishing that law abiding citizen harm (or other law abiding citizens harm) come into view....
and that is simply a fact. America is made up of citizens, frustrated at the criminal and jihadist elements running rampant in the streets. Your being an officer of the law, you see the crime up close. The citizens are become more and more alarmed as am I, concerning the rampant behavior of some in our society, and protection for the citizens of this nation has to be top priority, or the citizens will have no choice but to respond to violence with violence of their own. I cannot ride one mile down the street in my town without seeing a law being broken. When I can see it, and mind you I am only a citizen, I fear for myself as well as those innocent in the area where the law is being broken. A weapon or a shooting is not what it takes for the law to be broken. The law breakers are running rampant throughout our land. Seeing such only reinforces my belief that the police cannot do what must be done, all by themselves. I pity our Men and Women in uniform for most of our politicians and well as many of our judges appear to be against the law and order, Americans deserve.

Notice I did not mention attorneys, yet I know there is another whole can of worms, because a liberal attorney can wreck havoc on a land. And last time I checked Americans weren't going fishing in a mass effort. Law abiding citizens can help, in the efforts to make our land safe, if the police aren't too proud and willing to keep citizens from protecting themselves or fellow citizens. There I said it....I hope you, an officer of the law, were not offended. If you were.....my oh my .... I may yet live to see the flag of surrender and my land overrun, for at this time and at this moment, the initial steps have begun by our enemies of freedom. I choose to speak out because if necessary I shall defend myself and my family. I know you will do the same, and I Thank You for your service, but an officer of the law should understand.... My right of self-defense is not negotiable, as long as I have protection from someone or someones wishing me, my family, or fellow Americans harm. Yet just wait, watch, and know for a fact, those who choose to protect themselves are vilified and I believe if it can be accomplished worse is yet to come. I want to be wrong, but even if I am wrong, I shall hold onto my right of self-defense. One is taught in my neck of the woods, "From my cold dead hands, not till then"

Can they just come into your apartment for one reason, turn it upside down, and use any evidence they find for an unrelated charge against you?

is should absolutely be up to the states. but then you have the individual counties. if you have a concealed carry permit from the state of new york, you still cannot carry in the 5 boroughs of NYC.

This sounds like a Kathyrn Johnson moment. When the narco-police broke in and killed her, they ‘found’ a bag of pot in the house. They eventually admitted to planting it, but initially it was trumpeted as a ‘good’ bust.

So, now, when this BS charge gets tossed, they ‘find’ suspected child porn. I’m not buying it. This guy is being Nifong-ed. Sutton-ed. Fitzgerald-ed. Or pick any other politician turned DA that has an agenda.

And ten-to-one the police used one of those pre-signed warrants that are just so handy to have laying around when you need one. There was no good, compelling reason to search his house. There was no evidence a crime had been committed there, and if they went to search for any more firearms, then firearms were all they were allowed to look for. But police departments don’t let small things like the US Constitution get in their way. Not anymore... if they ever did.

A gun isn’t allowed in a car unless it is proveable your going to or from a shooting range.

Where in the statutes is that? That might be something related to those regarding non-Illinois residents without FOID cards, but I'm aware of no such requirement for Illinois residents with FOID cards.

Exceptions are persons using their firearms on established target ranges; licensed hunters, trappers, or fishermen while engaged in their licensed activity; transportation of firearms that are broken down in a non-functioning state or are not immediately accessible (e.g., in the trunk of a car); and transportation, carrying, or possession of a firearm which is unloaded and enclosed in a case, firearm carrying box, shipping box, or other container, by the possessor of a valid FOID. Under the Wildlife Code, it is unlawful to have or carry any firearm in or on any vehicle or conveyance unless unloaded and enclosed in a case.

That is tooo confusing for me... see if you can figure it out. When I used to live there decades ago we were told if stopped in a car and a gun turns up you were supposed to tell the officer you were going to the gun range.

i cannot speak to what is happening in 46 other states where i do not reside. however, in my line of work i see a large number of assaults over parking spaces, highway cut-offs, middle finger extensions, etc...

new york city is just different, imho. you pack 10 million people in a land mass this size, and you will have a huge number of negative interactions relative to, say, wyoming.

i will say again. i would like to see law-abiding citizens have an easier time getting a concealed carry permit here. guiliani took away a LOT of legal carry permits away for absolutely no reason. my fathers being one of them. i will never vote for that scum-bag.

In RTC states, law enforcement hasn't reported an issue with civilians carrying concealed. The IL establishment thinks people are too stupid to control their passions and behave responsibly.

Note when ciitzen carry, it is “putting more guns on the street”, but those terms are never used when hiring more cops.

This hasn't happened in Dallas, Phoenix, Atlanta etc etc, which are not exactly one horse towns.Perhaps you are trying to say that New Yorkers, unlike those in Dallas, Phoenix, Atlanta etc, are too wild to exercise self-control?

last month i arrested a licensed security guard for stabbing a guy in the neck with a three foot sword. why did he stab him in the neck with a three foot sword, you ask? because the guy drove too close to him as he was crossing the street. if the perp had a gun, he would have used it. i’m only going by my experiences in new york city. but read my other posts to see that i am very pro-gun in the proper hands.
