Reid: Pull Troops or We Won’t Pay Them
TownHall.com ^ | 20 July 2007 | Amanda Carpenter

If Majority Leader Harry Reid can’t start pulling troops out of Iraq, he doesn’t want to start paying them any more either.

After an amendment to begin withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq within 120 days failed to receive the 60 votes needed to proceed, Reid set the entire defense authorization bill aside. By doing so, he shelved a 3.5 percent pay raise for all uniformed service personnel, $4 billion in equipment upgrades and a new program to treat traumatic brain injuries.

To increase pressure on Republicans to support the measure, sponsored by Sen. Carl Levin (D.-Mich.) and Sen. Jack Reed (D.-R.I.), Reid threw the Senate into an all night session on Tuesday evening that lasted through Wednesday morning. Levin-Reid fell eight votes short, 52-47.

“There are two things that I want to accomplish,” Reid told reporters immediately after the amendment vote. “One is to pass a defense authorization bill, but with a deadline dealing with Iraq. Once we put that together, we'll move forward on it.”

The only logical recourse for Conservatives in the Republican party is to leave the party and unite with unaffiliated Conservatives>

WE heard a lot of that for the last election - '"teach the republicans a lesson'" by letting the Socialists back into power -

yep. That worked well.

The socialists are in power. The leader of the Republican party(Bush) works with a flaming socialist(Kennedy) to pass legislation(Amnesty for illegals) that will destroy this country and one of the leading candidates(Guiliani) positions on several issues is aligned with the Socialist Democrats is confirmation Conservatives have lost control. Conservatives can continue to bury their heads in the sand but that is the type of thinking which has caused the problem.

"Fat allowances"?

You gotta' be kidding.

BTW, way back in 1969 I returned from my own military service and was assigned the job of running the Post Office Department's "Project Transition". This was a program started by the Democrats to help get returning war vets jobs, and this one had great potential.

We ended up hiring over 100,000 guys, many of them got their preliminary clerk/carrier exams in the field with a commitment to hire them the day they came home.

Oh, yeah, I rewrote the clerk/carrier exam among other things.

By August of 1969 a couple of fascists apparatchiks Nixon had appointed to the Post Office Department were killing the program, and trying to get rid of me along with it.

Somehow we kept it going, met our hiring goals, and guar-an-G.D.-teed, we hired every single individual to whom we'd made a commitment.

I paid a price for this ~ Nixon's little buddies, not a one of whom had ever been in the Infantry, or in the Post Office for that matter, tried to deny me promotions required by law. That precipitated a civil service appeal that resulted in a precedent shattering case. Took me 5 years but I stomped those pukes.

Oh, yeah, I got some promotions after that anyway, but the pukes tried to stop me.

Nixon might have been OK with the troops, but his pukes weren't all that pure. Some of them were scum ~ kind of like John Dean.

Still gets my anger up every time I think about it ~ enough to kill.

I didn’t even think of emailing the casinos! I’m on the El Cortez mailing list(yes, I know it’s a dive-but their slots are 26% looser!).

I’ll have to think on this one. I always try to be very polite, and to the point about any issue I’m addressing. I’d rather email the Corleones than a Union...

Wish we could fault the all-noter for Reid making such an incoherent statement.

He could make the same point and be just as effective if he withheld raises and additional funds for federal workers and their health care in the next budget and left the military alone. But no, he chose to make servicemen and their families carry the brunt of his tantrum. Think about it.

It's even worse because servicemen don't have anything to do with making policy decisions about whether or not the reconstruction of Iraq will continue or not.

Now there's a thought! What if a good number of active duty folks went after Harry with a class action lawsuit!?

The treasonous bastard knows no limits.

Pay for it with a cut to their pork projects or their social programs.

This is an act of treason. the President is the Commander-in-Chief, not the Congress.

People in Reid's state need to start a recall of Sen. Reid and make getting the signatures very public in the news.

Looks like he’s trying to push the Senate rating down below 10%.

What POS Reid is.

Well, fellow, I know that everytime some issue comes up that we need to contact our senators about, I do not need to contact mine because I know that they feel the same way about it as I do.

That is a pretty good record for my government representatives.

You would be thrilled to have such.

And I also know that on immigration, my representatives have taken active steps against amnesty. They are worthy people I am proud got elected. Perfect? No, but you must remember we are not sending unthinking robots up to Washington, the people that earn the position have their own views which make them willing to go to Washington.

Funny how you try and run down other states’ senators because yours has been such a pawn for the terrorist agenda and for immigration.

If I could get rid of the bad apples in other states and get some like these two, our government would have a chance.

Again, quit running down mine and get busy running down the bad apples.

You are just like the Bush critics on here - kill your own because they are not your robots but leave the bad apples just cooking away.

Pride and ego are wastes of time around here. We need results - and trying to tear down the better members is an absolute waste of your time and mine. Get busy on the ones causing the trouble in your state and in others. There is not other hope for this country.

And quit wasting time on Bush and the better Washington members.
