Reid: Pull Troops or We Won’t Pay Them
TownHall.com ^ | 20 July 2007 | Amanda Carpenter

If Majority Leader Harry Reid can’t start pulling troops out of Iraq, he doesn’t want to start paying them any more either.

After an amendment to begin withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq within 120 days failed to receive the 60 votes needed to proceed, Reid set the entire defense authorization bill aside. By doing so, he shelved a 3.5 percent pay raise for all uniformed service personnel, $4 billion in equipment upgrades and a new program to treat traumatic brain injuries.

To increase pressure on Republicans to support the measure, sponsored by Sen. Carl Levin (D.-Mich.) and Sen. Jack Reed (D.-R.I.), Reid threw the Senate into an all night session on Tuesday evening that lasted through Wednesday morning. Levin-Reid fell eight votes short, 52-47.

“There are two things that I want to accomplish,” Reid told reporters immediately after the amendment vote. “One is to pass a defense authorization bill, but with a deadline dealing with Iraq. Once we put that together, we'll move forward on it.”

Amen! Harry Reid is no better than the Taliban. All I can say is God help this country with the likes of Reid, Pelosi, kennedy,Clinton, etc, in Congress.

So much for the BS about supporting US troops while opposing the war. The Dems, who supposedly lament every combat death in Iraq, have no problem leaving US troops in a war zone unpaid and without food, ammunition or other supplies. Hypocrites!

You’re pretty fast :)

Here is the email I sent:
Hello,

I am writing to you to let you know that I will not be traveling to Nevada, or specifically Las Vegas, in protest of Senator Reid’s threats to cut support for our troops. My friends and family members will also think twice about supporting your state.

It is probably unreasonable to appeal to your organization, however we are tired of this man’s blatant disregard for our military personnel. We realize how difficult it is to recall a politician, but you might want to think about this option before Senator Reid does any more damage to our troops and your economy.

Sincerely,

Had to type fast. There is a line forming behind me for the computer, lol!

The Dems never quit firing their cannons. The Republicans never even start.

The Republicans political ideology over the last forty years has increasingly aligned itself with the Socialist Democrats creating a one party system devoid of Conservative principles. The only logical recourse for Conservatives in the Republican party is to leave the party and unite with unaffiliated Conservatives.

Here’s another of my favorite Twain quotes:

“I am convinced that there is no native American criminal class — except Congress.”

I’m up for a boycott. I just sent an email to the chamber of commerce saying so. Reid is so full of shit, his eyes float!

Our troops need more prayers than ever right now.

American citizens should demand paychecks be withheld from congress critters until our troops get what they need.

When I think about them giving themselves pay raises at the drop of a hat, and refusing to support our military people, it makes me furious.

Actually, just a nit pick, but the White House is trying to limit the pay raise for the troops to 3.0%.

“The House Armed Services Committee recommends a 3.5 percent pay increase for 2008, and increases in 2009 through 2012 that also are 0.5 percentage point greater than private-sector pay raises.

“The slightly bigger military raises are intended to reduce the gap between military and civilian pay that stands at about 3.9 percent today. Under the bill, HR 1585, the pay gap would be reduced to 1.4 percent after the Jan. 1, 2012, pay increase.

“Bush budget officials said the administration ‘strongly opposes’ both the 3.5 percent raise for 2008 and the follow-on increases, calling extra pay increases ‘unnecessary.’”

Oh my goodness, this was in 2002! B4, if we can get a governor kicked out, you all have a fighting chance of “Recall Reid” :)

Thank you so much Ron. I bookmarked it again. Those FReeps were better than a free trip to Disneyland :)

How can people be so stupid to support these rats?

The trolls tricked us into shooting ourselves in the foot to teach ourselves a lesson.

That is true. The rats obstructed everything and then stood back and said the Republicans are inept.

Cronyn is the senator that walked out on McCain during the immigration hassle.

Cronyn put forth a bill to prevent the criminal illegals from staying here. Of course it was defeated by Reid, et al.

Cronyn and Hutchinson are wonderful senators from our state and I could not be prouder of them. Wish we had the same in Nevada, Massachusetts, Maine, Louisiana and many other places.
