Forrest's soldiers loved him. His fellow generals admired him. His enemies were terrified at the mere mention of his name. Gen. Robert E. Lee said of his finest subordinate commanders, the most remarkable was one he "had never met" — Forrest. And U.S. and foreign military officers alike have studied Forrest’s campaigns over the decades since the end of the war. It has even been speculated that some aspects of the German Blitzkrieg were patterned after some of Forrest's operations.

The question isn’t pointless. It’s a straight-up factual matter that once again either shows that all of history is wrong (and the Pilgrims didn’t celebrate their Thanksgiving in 1621, or Cortez landed in Mexico before 1519), or that you’re making stuff up again.

Okay, without publishing the entire book, any excerpt is somewhat selective and out of context.

If you have other parts of the book that correct or diminish or qualify the excerpt, please share it with us.

It is not good enough to complain, you have to present another, competing idea or you end up looking like stand watie. I don't wish that disrepute on anyone.

Really? Because a few months ago you were telling me that the date for my ouster had been determined, but that when it came and went without incident, it was because people had spoken up for me.

So, have you come up with an explanation for how the Spanish were celebrating Thanksgiving in El Paso before they'd even landed in Mexico?

Believe whatever you want to believe. You do that anyway, from your non-existent books (what library has "Yachts Against Subs" again?) to the Yankees burning the synagogue in Alexandria that wasn't built until after the war (and is your friend the expert ever going to make his promised appearance?) to the Spanish celebrating Thanksgiving in El Paso before they'd even landed in Mexico.

The Union cavalry force was about 3 miles to the east. Stuart was attempting to flank the Union right, and if he had broken the Union cavalry (on the Union right flank), it would have fled westward and southward, and some of those fleeing would have most likely ended up crashing into the main Union line from its right flank, and behind.

Like I posited in my original post.

I said nothing about Union cavalry in front of the Union line. Why did you?

In fact, the reason both offers of surrender were refused is that the blacks knew what their fate would be and strongly objected to being taken prisoner, they were right.

A reasonable speculation, but speculation nonetheless.

Seeing your friends, family, neighbors decapitated by a cannon round will do that from what I’m told.

I believe that the "killing mad" query had to do with the Antebellum period, when people WEREN'T being decapitated by cannonballs (as far as I know)...

What source are you using for those numbers? I have seen estimates from 50% - 79% Union casualties. Varies by source.

The Union was waiting on reinforcements from the gun boats. The plan was to cover a Federal retreat with cannister if need be. Forrest's troopers moved so fast the gunboats could not fire without hitting the retreating bluecoats.

Forrest was known for treating prisoners fairly and went even farther in the next battle to prove again they would receive fair treatment.

No ‘complaint’ here. I noted what Foote says on the same page you quoted, but did not include, which was the exoneration of Forrest for the so called ‘masacre’.

You typed in from the book yesterday....my library on the subject is at my home, I’m at work.

Because of your references to the ‘charge’.

Bottom line is his horses were blown, and the results demonstrate it conclusively. Even if they had not, they’d have run into the Sixth Corps, and been rebuffed in any attempt like you are suggesting.

Cavalry v a Corps or more of Infantry gets its but kicked in that scenario.

You remind me of Confederate Gen. Richard Taylor's [son of Zachary Taylor] description of his surrender of his troops in Alabama in his Destruction and Reconstruction

"...The air of "Hail Columbia," which the band in attendance struck up, was instantly changed by [commanding US General] Canby's order to that of "Dixie"; but I insisted on the first, and expressed a hope that Columbia would again be a happy land, a sentiment honored by many libations.

"There was, as ever, a skeleton at the feast, in the person of a general officer who had recently left Germany to become a citizen and soldier of the United States. This person, with the strong accent and idioms of the Fatherland, comforted me by assurances that we of the South would speedily recognize our ignorance and errors, especially about slavery and the rights of States, and rejoice in the results of the war. In vain Canby and [US Commodore] Palmer tried to suppress him.... I apologized meekly for my ignorance, on the grounds that my ancestors had come from England to Virginia in 1608, and, in the short intervening period of two hundred fifty-odd years, had found no time to convey to me correct ideas of the duties of American citizenship. Moreover, my grandfather, commanding the 9th Virginia regiment in our Revolutionary army, had assisted in the defeat and capture of the Hessian mercenaries at Trenton, and I lamented that he had not, by association with these worthies, enlightened his understanding. My friend smiled blandly, and assured me of his willingness to instruct me...."

the difference between the "DAMNyankee coven" members & myself is that i've done >3 decades of research on the WBTS & they have NOT. (btw, i used to "footnote" my posts, after extensive research. no matter WHAT the source was, the DYs here said: that's NOT a good source. so i QUIT "footnoting", after one of the nitwits said that "the OR" was NOT an acceptable source. fyi, that sort of comment is called: NITWITTERY!)

even most of the DYs admit that they've never looked at a single PRIMARY source document.

MOST have no clue as to what a "primary source document" is. (one of their number recently said that a "primary source" was "wikipedia"!!!)

another recently said that Robert E Lee was the PRESIDENT of the CSA.

thus they SHOULD "look like stand watie". (as one of the brighter DYs said: "i frequently despise stand's opinions, but he's correct on the facts.")

PITY that MOST of the DAMNyankees on this forum are JUST haters, loudmouthed louts, nitwits, UNeducated, REVISIONISTS & bigots. of all the "members in good-standing" of "the DAMNyankee coven", only N-S has BOTH a functioning brain AND a sound education. (N-S is also WELL read.)

ONE reason that i constantly attack the members of "the coven" is that they suffered the presence of an outright RACIST in their group for over a year, with never a "peep" against his HATEFULNESS & comments about "people, who are other than white". TOLERATING a RACIST is (in my opinion) just as EVIL as BEING a RACIST!
