President Bush yesterday said Americans will soon realize they need the immigrants and foreign temporary workers that would have been allowed by his immigration bill, which was defeated in the Senate last month.
Mr. Bush, in a town hall session in Nashville, Tenn., also refused to say whether he will pardon two U.S. Border Patrol agents convicted of shooting a fleeing drug-smuggling suspect, saying the prosecutor was a friend of his who made his case to the jury that convicted the agents.
If Mr. Bush was hoping the immigration issue would disappear after his bill's failure, those hopes were dashed, as he was asked repeatedly about border security during the forum meant to highlight his commitment to cutting the deficit.
"The bill failed and I can't make a prediction to you at this point, sir, where it's going to head," the president told one questioner. "I can make you a prediction, though, that pretty shortly people are going to be knocking on people's doors saying, man, we're running out of workers."
Mr. Bush said there are workers who will do jobs Americans aren't doing in the agriculture sector in particular, and without them the jobs will go unfilled.

The heat was more memorable than the dirt. But I managed to avoid some of the choicer jobs my friends landed, like cleaning sewers for the city, or chipping plaque off of refinery pipes a hundred feet in the air.
We need LEGAL workers...
We need the rule of law to be respected and obeyed.
Your a cliche in search of an idea. There is no penalty for sneaking across the border. There is a prison term for dealing crack.
Enforcing the law is code for Round up all the Mexicans and herd them back to Mexico. Where you going to find the labor to plant and harvest the crops after you deport them??

Do I thank them also if I get Hepatitis A afterward? Bring back health cards for food handlers. All of them. Health card including proper inoculations and test for communicable diseases such as TB.
I think you’re trying to find an acceptable rationale for his bull headed behavior- and there isn’t one. Bush is one of those people who are post-national, it’s common in big business where borders and culture are annoyances to be pushed aside.
Foreign policy A. Domestic policy C-.

Cotton is picked by machines that take 6-8 rows per through. Most if not all of these are run by the owner of the farm or a LEGAL hired hand that has been here forever and has the experience to run this extremely valuable equipment. Same for planting and harvesting. All the crops that I know about are planted and harvested with machinery other than some vegetables and fruits.
So Bray, will you lose your orchard if you can’t find slaves to work it?

Now where you going to find all these Legal Workers when you have a labor shortage??

It would be nice if the welfare junkies would take some of these jobs. Nice that is, if they were worth anything as employees. The reality is... There’s a reason these folks are unemployed. They’re unemployable.
AJ might be right..
Without the influx of new cultures and ideas, we become stagnate. This has been the curse of many burgeoning countries. Look at the countries that once flourished and are now without the bloom of their youth (UK, Germany, France). Once the input of new peoples ceases, death of their country follows thereafter.
(Will admit that my argument only bodes true if Islamic cultures are excluded.)
The US is a great example. Think how great this country would be if we had excluded the Germans, Irish, English, etc.? All their input was tantamount to making this country great.
I’ve worked in shops grinding flash off of aluminium transmission housings, picked rocks, baled hay and just about every other type of farm work. Industrial painting, scrap yard work. I’ve worked in both lumberyards and sawmills. Metal plating, press operation, I made fiberglass truck caps and lids (that was an extra special treat)

geeshk!
are you for real?
You stop making it so hard for law abiding people to come to America, for starters.
but you DON’T embrace breaking the law- by anyone- especially the business owners.
I agree with all of that but the genie is out of the bottle now. You *might* be able to alter social security somewhat but you’ll never eliminate it without creating an economic catastrophe. You’d first have to get health care costs under control. To do that, you’d have to convince people that health care is not a civil right. Plus, you’d have to re-establish the network of faith-based charities that often filled the gaps before government took over. IOW, little is going to change during your lifetime, or your children’s lifetime, or your children’s childrens’ lifetime. Unless, of course, the entire government collapses and people have to start over from scratch. That will be a bitter pill for a lot of people.
It sounds like you got lucky out of those choices.
