Bush: Americans will realize need for aliens
The Washington Times ^ | July 20, 2007 | Stephen Dinan

Posted on 07/20/2007 6:17:46 PM PDT by Baladas

President Bush yesterday said Americans will soon realize they need the immigrants and foreign temporary workers that would have been allowed by his immigration bill, which was defeated in the Senate last month.

Mr. Bush, in a town hall session in Nashville, Tenn., also refused to say whether he will pardon two U.S. Border Patrol agents convicted of shooting a fleeing drug-smuggling suspect, saying the prosecutor was a friend of his who made his case to the jury that convicted the agents.

If Mr. Bush was hoping the immigration issue would disappear after his bill's failure, those hopes were dashed, as he was asked repeatedly about border security during the forum — meant to highlight his commitment to cutting the deficit.

"The bill failed and I can't make a prediction to you at this point, sir, where it's going to head," the president told one questioner. "I can make you a prediction, though, that pretty shortly people are going to be knocking on people's doors saying, man, we're running out of workers."

Mr. Bush said there are workers who will do jobs Americans aren't doing in the agriculture sector in particular, and without them the jobs will go unfilled.

Pretty simple really, the gummit doesn’t have the manpower to deport all the Mexicans so most make it through the seive.

Labor is a commodity like any other and if you have no skills you are paid accordingly. Mexicans who only know how to do Manuel labor are going to be paid accordingly. That is the labor market. The gummit doesn’t pick and choose who they raid, it is completely random and the market has tools to deal with those penalties.

Here’s a little Econ 102, when the richest Country in the world is next to a Turd World Country guess which way the people are going to go.

Who cares what any of us believe since there will never ever be reform. You guys will call it shamnesty no matter what. It will be addressed right after SSI thanks to your censorship of ANY disagreement.

Now if you were to deport all the Mexicans, who would plant and pick all the crops?? You?

Pray for W and Our Troops

Importing masses of illiterate peasants from a corrupt cesspool

only causes the host recipient to transform (for the worse), not the other way around.

Are we taking illegal immigrants or the Democrats?

Gee, how original. Did you think that one up by yourself. Now back to the circle since I am out of your little hatefest.

He must not have ever seen the show "Dirty Jobs"

Of all those "Dirty Jobs" Mike Rowe has showcased that I've seen, only one -- the hot tar roofers -- had Mexicans working it.

President Bush is using simple math in justifying his warning that we'll soon have a server labor shortage.

Yes...hence driving wages up...we just might return to the higest wage economy we once were...and revitalize the middle class....and the problems is???....:o)

It's already hard enough for restaurants to find good servers. ;)

To think that migrant farm labor, legal or illegal, has not been around for very long is either naive or ignorant.

"Been around for a very long time" is one thing...epidemic is quite another.... we also use to burn trash in our backyards...but that is no rationalization for contiuing to do that ad infinitum.... this argument is so lame I go brain-dead..."we'll since we did it for years we can keep doing it forever..."....argggghhhhh!!!

And now we sane Americans are wondering if we have any political party left to represent us. My plumber understands crime and anarchy, but those in power don’t. It reads like some Philip K. Dick short story.

When I was a teenager, it was a privilege to sort and crate tomatoes at two bucks an hour, and this in the Summer, and this in Charleston, S.C. Our parents saw to it that we had little in terms of luxury, and we yearned to work to provide a bit of it for ourselves. I have had jobs that most Mexicans would not take, like scraping out the grinding pits of the recycling center of the city dump. I was reared to love work, and slowly the lesson ingratiated itself. What is my point? Given a proper upbringing, Americans well do any honest work, and do it better than any nation on Earth.

Just because 90% of illegals are Mexican there is no reason to mention they are Mexicans.

There isn't????....so at what point do you mention that? 98?...99?....

Agree with you that illegal immigration ought to be halted, and illegal aliens should be pressured into returning to Mexico (by making employers of illegal aliens pay of lot of money per illegal alien found working for them--so illegal aliens would be blacklisted).

However, disagree with the tactic: in this case the suggestion that all illegal aliens are perverse weirdos who give passers-by the middle finger. The vast majority of illegal aliens are not violent criminals (they are obviously criminals), their manners often times surpass those of American citizens, they aren't out to start a Reconquista, and they are willing to take up English (in theory); they are simply here to make a few bucks to send back home to support their family. It is that what they are doing is illegal and that there are so many of them that they are putting a strain on American infrastructure. And English is one of the most difficult foreign languages--it isn't very logical on account of its mixed heritage. If you went to work in another, non-Anglophone country and you could easily get by on English wouldn't you be tempted to use English (and therefore not pressure yourself so much to take up the native language)? Those who present things in Spanish are more at fault than the illegal aliens who take advantage of it.

i have found that when a freeper wails on and on about this issue and doth protest too much about ethnic stuff that they have an axe to grind and are often a party to the aggreived minority themselves

which are you? or married to one? something....your defenses are too emotive for conservative reason, you must have something personal at stake

be honest....I've seen this here for years.....over this issue...many of the biggest apologists for illegals here were either latino themselves, or married to one or employed them.....I'd wager that's 90% of the biggest FROBLs we ever had here

Funny we’ve all been so alarmed by George Soros, when George Bush has been attempting much of his plan.

Mr. Bush should work in a factory for a year. Especially one where they have so many foreign workers they are cutting the wages of their American Citizens — or telling them they can just quit.

Or, he could sell in a department store, where the commissions are half what they used to be.

We’ve had our Howard Beale moment now but we need to come to a further awareness that all the euphemistic palaver about America joining global economomy is code for “let the multinational corporations continue to grow and consolidate as extragovernmental powers in a globalist semi-fascist economy, while forcing down American employees’ income, to match the rest of the deprived world.”

But I wonder who they think they’ll sell all their products to, when Americans cannot afford to buy them, anymore.
