NASHVILLE, Tenn. - President Bush sharply challenged critics of his stalled immigration-overhaul efforts on Thursday, suggesting that failure to pass a guest-worker program could trigger a labor shortage in the United States.
At a town-hall style meeting, Bush also rebuffed a question about whether he would consider pardoning two Border Patrol agents in prison for the cover-up of the shooting of a drug trafficker in Texas.
"No, I won't make you that promise," Bush told a woman who asked about a possible pardon. Many Republicans in Congress have said the men should not have been convicted and have criticized the federal U.S. attorney for even prosecuting the agents.
"I know it's an emotional issue but people need to look at the facts. These men were convicted by a jury of their peers after listening to the facts" as presented by U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton, said Bush. Bush called Sutton a friend.

I think Harrison Ford is a leftie too. He has been at leftie events.
He starred in Steven Spielberg movies and Spielberg, while a great movie producer, is a leftie. In typical leftie tradition, he personally collects firearms, but doesn’t think the unwashed masses who patronize his movies (you and me) should be allowed to own one. (Maybe he’s related to Diane Frankenfeinstein or Jon “Look Ma no seat belt” Corzine.
I’m sure Ford is. He used to play such patriotic roles (in my opinion), saving passengers, saving his wife, etc. - what a pity.
Nice about Spielberg, figures. Speaking of Diane and her mansions and wineries and libbie hypocrisy... I heard yesterday that Gavin Newsom (oh and speaking of metros), owns wineries too and is another spoiled rich brat... He campaigned on “taking mass transit” and seeing the city from the bus. All those northern CA flamers seem to own wineries and of course, employ illegal aliens.
We need a third party.
If the Republicans can’t TAKE back CONGRESS, get Fred Thompson or Duncan Hunter elected, and start acting like MEN, its past time the Republican Party joined the Whigs and Federalists in the Museum of extinct political organizations. They should be replaced by a political party which can effectively counter the far left Bosheviks in the Democrat Party instead of playing games with them behind our backs.
America needs and DESERVES a political party with the backbone, guts, integrity, and testacles to fight the Democrat-Liberal counterculture plague which is destroying what so many un-named and forgotten heroes in the Revolution through the Iraqi War have bled and died to protect and defend.
Amen and right on! End the dynasties!

Many, probably most are greatly disappointed he lacks the moral fortitude to draw a parallel between the pardon of Libby and the prison time doled out to border guards doing their duty.
No one, including President Bush, should ever be given a free pass simply because of membership in a political party or other group.
Unless you know otherwise, the Minutemen have never usurped or interfered with the lawful judicial processes in our nation. Vigilantes would in a heartbeat.
I would put his “See you at the signing” remark in the same category as his “Bring it on” remark concerning insurgents in Iraq when peace seemed achievable. He is just outright arrogant.
I think the argument still has merit in that it shows the little difference between the Democrats and Republicans on spending policy. Conrad is basically saying of Bush, “See, we are alike”.
Even their tax policies differ little. One taxes in the present, the other through borrowing defers taxes to another day. Neither reduces the size of government that spends money so wastefully.

Well, from their point of view they were perhaps being true to mother England... not nessesarily traitors from that perspective.
A distinction I would make — if you will — is one who has been put in a position of trust and power: and then betraying that trust.
This is treachery or treason of the highest degree.
We expect our leaders — especially those elected to the most elevated positions of power — to take their oaths of office seriously.
If the aforementioned leaders stand in violation of their oaths of office then “we the people” also have a duty to divest such incompetents (to be kind) of the office — that we have so granted them.
I just had to respond to your post. It is not enough to force teenagers to work if employers will not hire them.
Not all teenagers are out spending at the malls. There are currently about 2.8 million looking for jobs. These are teens and young adults aged 16 to 24. Their number is quite close to estimates of the number of illegal immigrants working in our nation. Not all of the 12 to 20 million illegal immigrants in our nation are working.
I have a solution that could put our youths back into the jobs they once held. Make them more attractive to employers by eliminating both the worker and employer contributions to SSI so long as these youth continue satisfactorily in school.
Such a change would allow more of our youths to attain a college education without going into debt, teach self-reliance, and provide the low-tech workers our economy needs.
The immigration issue opened the door to public knowledge of NAU, and that’s simply unacceptable.

Well, I had an American Indian take me (nicely!) to task over it. He pointed out that what happened to the American Indian in the 19th Century wasn't all bad. And, he has a point. Actually, we had a nice conversation back-and-forth.
