Don't they all think they are the true church?
Canada Free Press ^ | Tuesday, July 17, 2007 | By Paul Albers

...The reaction of some Protestants also strikes me as odd since it seems to deny the very idea of there being a 'one true church'. I would have expected that every church would consider itself superior to all others in some way. Early Protestants felt strongly enough about their faith to practice it in the face of violent persecution, and their leaders endured many hardships to establish their doctrines.

Any church today that doesn't have a conviction of its own rightness is not prepared to last through the generations. If you think it makes no difference to God if you are a Protestant or Catholic, then what is the reason for both to exist?

All Churches think themselves the True Church.. luckily, Christ didn’t put a requirement on what church one belongs to.. but I guess that’s the difference in Churchanity and Christianity.

Well, I agree with the Pope that there is one true Church on Earth. It consists of believing Catholics and believing non-Catholics. The operative word here is, of course, "believing".

Matthew 7:22-27

“Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.

And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:

And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

There is actually only one Church that counts in eternity. Jesus establish that one and membership is strictly on a faith come faith served basis. And members have been ushered in uninterrupted for the past app. 2000 years.

If one studies the history of WHY the protestants rebelled against the roman catholic church they would understand the separation between the two groups. The catholics believe that salvation comes from Jesus through the catholic church and the protestants believe that one can go straight to the Lord Jesus and ask to be saved. If the catholics want to go straight to Jesus and be saved, then they are my brother or sister in the Lord after they receive Him as their Lord and Savior. BUT, it is anthema (sp) for the catholics to be saved outside the church. This is why i can never be a catholic, i don’t want to depend on the catholic church for my salvation.

Mormon Alert!!!!

Looks like one of them is still upset that many Christians look at "the Church of Christ" as consisting of the believers and not just some bureaucrats ensconced in Rome or Constantinople or Moscow or Salt Lake City.

He'll have to get over this if he ever hopes to communicate with them.

Oh but Jesus did establish the church but it is a group who is obedient to His commandments, not man’s commandments.

LOL. Good one.

I go to a Messianic Jewish congregation and love it. I had issues with overlooking the 4th Commandment, so I no longer have that worry. (Plus they have shofars and Hebrew prayers!)

= )

all...THE true church

That's simply incorrect.

There are lots of churches that are not hyper-denominationalistic.

In my experience, the differences in the Christian Churches are best demonstrated as a variation in awareness of the different aspects of our life in Christ. One church may have a clear vision of one aspect of our walk, another may see more clearly other aspects of our walk.

I have yet to see any human entity or group with all Knowledge, all Wisdom, and all Vision, at least I’m sure my Vision in this regard is quite limited. I do not ask any human church to have all Vision.

I do expect those who have been gifted some measure of Vision to use, that which they have been given Stewardship, toward our Lord’s Glory.

I also expect little else but error from fallen Humans. My own very flawed life in Christ is an excellent model.

He established a church, not a denomination. All believers in his Godship are members of His church. Denominations came later … and any denomination that calms to be the true church is a denomination to be shunned.

No denomination is perfect. And any congregation worth it’s salt recognizes this fact. They strive for perfection, but until Jesus returns, all congregations are imperfect.

The first trait of a cult is it’s claim “we are the only way to salvation”. “Follow us, believe as we do or you are doomed”.

To become a member of the “true church”, a belief in the Godhead of Jesus is all that is required. Denominations are the personal expresions of your way of Christian worship.

The catholics believe that salvation comes from Jesus through the catholic church and the protestants believe that one can go straight to the Lord Jesus and ask to be saved.

I thought the separation came about because Martin Luther rejected the idea of proving the existence of God through Aristotelean logic, an idea creeping into Church doctrine in the Middle Ages. Luther was a firm believer that one believed on mere faith alone.

Now you got me thinking. How do the lesbian couples deal with the fifth commandment?
