BAGHDAD — The top target for al Qaeda in Iraq south of Baghdad was killed July 14 in Arab Jabour by precision-guided munitions, the Excalibur.

Shortly after 12 p.m., 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, received a call that Abu Jurah and 14 anti-Iraqi forces were meeting at a house in Arab Jabour.

Abu Jurah was an AQI cell leader and was responsible for improvised explosive devices, vehicle-borne IED and indirect fire attacks on Coalition Forces in Arab Jabour.

At approximately 1:12 p.m., the house was positively identified allowing 1st Battalion, 9th Field Artillery Regiment to fire two Excalibur rounds destroying the meeting house.

An unmanned aerial vehicle observed persons leaving the house, loading injured individuals into a sedan and fleeing the scene.

An AH-64 Apache helicopter engaged the sedan destroying it.

Three people were observed running from the meeting house to a nearby house.

A U.S. Air Force F16 Fighting Falcon dropped two 500-pound GPS-guided bombs on the second house.

I think you would expect American troops to increase during the surge because they are entering enemy strongholds to engage and destroy them. I would urge not to judge the surge on numbers at least initially. In the long term that would be something to use to judge the success.

I’d be interested in knowing how our boys are getting this info about the whereabouts of the bad guys.

If the MSM discovers the identity of the intelligence source they will publish it on the front pages of the NYT and Washington Post. Or maybe pass it along to Leaky Leahy or Jay Rockefeller or John Kerry to publicly expose. Sterling characters all.

Scott Adams should do a Dilbert strip about a business meeting like this.

The Excalibur, which is I believe the GPS-guided arty shell, for starters

Definitely not our grandfathers' artillery. From globalsecurity.org:

Excalibur is a family of precision-guided, extended-range modular projectiles incorporating three unique payload capabilities divided into Block configurations. Block I consists of high-explosive, fragmenting, or penetrating unitary munitions to enhance traditional fire support operations with increased range, improved accuracy, and reduced collateral damage against personnel, light materiel, and structure targets. Block II consists of smart munitions to search, detect, acquire, and engage fleeting and short-dwell targets common to open-terrain battlefields. Block III consists of discriminating munitions to selectively identify and engage individual vehicular targets in urban environments by distinguishing specific target characteristics. Excalibur's precision capabilities are intended to be used by Future Combat System (FCS) Non-Line-of-Sight (NLOS) Cannon units to provide close support to maneuver units in urban or complex terrain. Digitized lightweight 155mm howitzer systems will be used to develop and test Excalibur's capabilities before FCS NLOS Cannon is fielded.

The Excalibur development team combines U.S. guidance expertise with Swedish airframe experience. The projectile will employ Global Positioning System (GPS)-aided inertial guidance and navigation, free spinning base fins, four-axis canard airframe control, base bleed technology, and a trajectory glide to achieve increased accuracy and extended ranges beyond 30 km. The FCS NLOS Cannon will incorporate an inductive fuze setter to transfer target and fuze data to the integral fuze.

Now they’ve got it.
Bomb the first house and everywhere the cockroaches scatter. Bomb their getaway cars. Bomb their neighbors.

Go get ‘em.

Adios pendejos!

We got 'em! They couldn't even get away in their sedan! So do the Democrats have a word of appreciation for our troops' success in wiping out an Al Qaeda terrorlord? No. They're busy figuring out to keep good news like this out of the press. Its surreal.

The Democrats (with the single, courageous exception of Joe Lieberman) do not want us to succeed in Iraq. Sadly, the same is true of a growing number of Republicans--RINOs, "mavericks," and assorted craven types with their fingers to the wind. The template has already been formed: Iraq is "a lost cause"; it was based upon "lies"; in any case, there is "nothing worth winning" there. And on and on. Ad nauseum.

Anything that does not fit neatly into this template is simply rejected out of hand by the politicians and the MSM. Or ignored.

This has gotta suck. Invite a few of the boys over for an Islamo party and someone has to come along and spoil it everytime. Catchin' the game, tippin' a few brews, chattin' about the new goat down the street, not a care in the world. All of the sudden God comes through the skylight and starts kickin' Allah's butt. Poor ol' Abdul is over here and over there and over there. Then God does it again. Leaves a ringin' in the ears.

You decide that this party's going nowhere so you scrape up what's left of Mohammed, his brother Mohamed and his other brother Mohammed and you stick 'em in the car and take off for the local bar. Maybe you can catch the rest of the game there. Then it comes again, a missle right up the tailpipe. You're thinkin' maybe this Jihad ain't what they said in the recruiting posters and then you wake up in Jihad heaven and there they are, your 72 virgins all lined up in burkas. You get on your hands and knees and sorter peek under the first one and like what you see. but then you notice that a necessary appendage is missing, blowed off in the blast. You are now in Muslim Hell.
