The FBI is investigating an alleged human smuggling operation based in Chaparral, N.M., that agents say is bringing "Iraqis and other Middle Eastern" individuals across the Rio Grande from Mexico.
An FBI intelligence report distributed by the Washington, D.C. Joint Terrorism Task Force, obtained by the Blotter on ABCNews.com, says the illegal ring has been bringing Iraqis across the border illegally for more than a year.
Border Patrol officials in the area said they were unaware of the specifics of the FBI's report, and federal prosecutors in New Mexico told ABCNews.com they had no current cases involving the illegal smuggling of Iraqis.
The FBI report, issued last week, says the smuggling organization "used to smuggle Mexicans, but decided to smuggle Iraqi or other Middle Eastern individuals because it was more lucrative." Each individual would be charged a fee of $20,000 to $25,000, according to the report.
The people to be smuggled would "gather at a house on the Mexican side of the border" and then cross the Rio Grande into the U.S., the report says.

It's actually more of a stretch to believe the terrorist would not be entering from the south. Even if caught in Mexico, they could likely bribe their way out of it, and continue. Or bribe a few officials prior to entering Mexico.
Drug runners bribe Mexican officials all the time. It's perfect.
For this government to stand gawking, telling us about "Gut feelings" with color coded warning charts, while these borders are wide open, is just beyond bizarre.
How often have they told us, "It's not if, it's when we get hit again"?
It's like throwing out a piece of raw steak, expecting no flies to land on it.
Where is our leadership? Is this some kind game to see how many Americans will be killed? What is the rationality here? Is there a covert agenda?
Think of what could happen without nukes or dirty bombs.
Charlie Manson comes to mind, when his band of followers hacked some people up, taking their ID into south central, dumping their ID and credit cards in gas station bathrooms etc in an effort to blame the murders on the blacks in south central, hoping to start his race war, pitting whites against blacks.
Just imagine what a small group of Mid-Eastern fanatics could do on their own, in an effort to cause this administration to politically implode, and divide this country even more, in addition to killing hundreds of Americans.
They could purposely enter illegally from Mexico, for maximum, intentional political impact, purposely leaving a paper trail.
Think of the D.C. snipers, firing out of a small hole in his trunk, casing mass murder and mass panic for weeks, all over the entire D.C. area a few years ago.
Can anyone imagine what a group of say, just 40 of these people could do? Like the D.C. snipers times 40, they could send this country reeling into a total panic, with a synchronized attack, killing many hundreds with surprise attacks against churches, malls, schools etc.
These people would finally be captured or killed, (it would take months) and it's discovered they entered illegally from Mexico, as they left an intentional paper trail going back into Mexico.
As this information started leaking out, the American people would completely melt down in anger, causing a critical divide between the American people and their own government.
If this occurred next week, would anyone be really surprised?

Absolutely. Anyone who chooses to believe that hundreds, if not thousands, of Muslims with terrorism on their minds have not already entered this country is in dire need of a reality check.
And I choose to believe that the majority of our leadership in Washington is not out of touch with reality. So their motives for pretending that this isn’t happening reflect something significantly more sinister than a loss of touch with reality.

I have often thought that a few dozen synchronized attacks of the sort you describe – taking place at high school football games, community events, holiday observances, and the like – would strike more fear and panic in the heart of America than even the holocaust that occurred on 9/11. Such attacks would awaken us to the fact that no matter where we live, we are no longer safe. And such attacks could be carried out with a significant chance of success, and little chance of pre-emption.
I believe your scenarios are frighteningly likely, and could be easily performed … with precisely the resulting ‘mass panic’ you envision.
Even more horrifying, but less easy to accomplish, would be the simultaneous release of chemical or biological agents – either airborne, or into public water supplies, etc.

This is the only aspect of your argument with which I take exception. I believe ninety percent of the populace would be caught off-guard, because ninety percent of the populace is not really aware of the extent of the treason in Washington, or the real porosity of our southern border, or the diverse nature of the invaders crossing that border each day.
I believe the average citizen (especially those of us who do not live in the southwest) has a passing knowledge that Mexicans are crossing our border illegally every day, and that they are sapping our economy and contributing to the crime rate. But I don’t believe the real negligence on the part of our ‘leadership’, and the nature of others (with much more toxic motives than Mexican illegals) who come across that border, have yet been realized by most Americans. We’re too involved in bread and circuses, and the accumulation of creature comforts, and a willingness to accept programmed ‘fluff’ as ‘news’, to yet dig deep enough to consider any but the most superficial ramifications of our open border policy.
So, although you and I will be horrified, but not surprised, should something like what you have described occur tomorrow, I truly believe that the large majority of our countrymen will be completely caught off-guard. Which at least provides us the sad ‘advantage’ of a modicum of (at least emotional) preparedness.

Allegiance and Duty Betrayed
A terrifying label to affix to the leadership of a representative republic. (But I concur.)
Well, I was basing that on what has occurred in the past 7 years or so, with the invasion of our borders escalating dramatically, far beyond the southwest, to all points in America, with many now realizing what many of us have been well aware of for some years now.
And then more recently with the president and many representatives in D.C. attempting to go completely against the will of he people, in their efforts to legalize millions with their amnesty. I think this was really an eye opener for millions of others, that have been in the dark, so to speak.
In addition, the next attack will be the second large scale attack. Hopefully, most of the country would be demanding to know why, by all intents and purposes, this was allowed to happen.
Then again, I do understand, that many Americans for whatever reasons, seem to be so preoccupied, (or stupid) they just haven't noticed what those in D.C. are capable of.
