What’s Dick Durbin up to?

The DREAM Act, which would allow illegal alien students to get special in-state college tuition discounts not available to native-born and naturalized American students, has been resurrected by the Dems. You’ll remember it was a piece of the failed shamnesty bill in the Senate. As I noted during the debate, the Dream Act would repeal a clearly worded provision in the 1996 Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act (IIRIRA) that states:

Notwithstanding any other provision of law, an alien who is not lawfully present in the United States shall not be eligible on the basis of residence within a State (or a political subdivision) for any postsecondary education benefit unless a citizen or national of the United States is eligible for such a benefit (in no less an amount, duration, and scope) without regard to whether the citizen or national is such a resident.

Ten states defied that federal law and offered in-state tuition to illegal aliens: California, Illinois, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, and Washington. The last time the DREAM Act champions tried to tack their scheme onto a larger immigration proposal, they snuck in language that would absolve those ten states of their law-breaking by repealing the 1996 law retroactively–and also offered a special path to green cards and citizenship for illegal alien students.

Now, Dick Durbin has announced he will stick the DREAM Act into the House Defense Bill HR1585. The lowdown is here. Durbin’s amendment would also welcome large numbers of illegal aliens into the military (you know, in addition to those the Pentagon has already allowed in).

The open-borders lobby couldn’t get shamnesty “comprehensively,” so they are doing it piecemeal, as I’ve warned many times. As before, it’s up to you to slay these mini-amnesty beasts.

Just exactly how does a local university process an admission form for an ILLEGAL alien?

Is there a checkbox that says: “I am here illegally so I am eligable for a reduced tuition rate”

When they tell them they are illegally here why isn’t INS called to arrest them?

True, but what worries me is the fact that this could make it incredibly easy for terrorists to simply join our military.

That alone just boggles my mind - that Democrats either don't see this (perhaps thinking "illegals" are all Hispanic), or that they're doing this intentionally and knowingly - allowing our enemy to join the ranks of our military. Just imagine something like this during WWII - it would appear that today's Democrat truly are enemies of our nation.

Remember (Senator/House Speaker) Sheehan: "Democrats, and Americans" - the two are not necessarily synonymous, sometimes they're opposites.

Did anyone hear Durbins speech after the amnesty bill was defeated.
Says he knows personally illegals who he has helped along the way. One was a woman he gives emergency visas to every year so she can be with her family here. One was someone who’s Mother let their visa expire. Didnt know what he was going to tell them.

What the hell Durbin, tell them to leave and you should be reported for knowing who these illegals are.

Searched for his speech on June 28, 2007, he spoke after Senator (one word per page) Byrd.

Found it and saved it to favorites and now link won’t come up and I cannot find the speech anywhere else.
I want to write to the Attorney General of IL. and give him a copy of it.
How would I go about finding it, anyone know.

so if an illegal then is legalized and then gains citizenship, will he lose residence tuition rates?

Probably not. Some kind of ‘affirmative action’ will likely be set up that will specially recognize amnesty recipients and grant special rights accordingly. Or something.
