I love that ship!
USS Constitution...a must-see part of the Patriot Trail when visiting Boston
Ok that works......sorry for being a Sunday morning idiot.
I might add that Old Ironsides will be doing two more of these turns this summer on August 24th & 31st between 10AM & 1PM, it should be firing a 21 gun salute at Castle Island “about” 11AM.
Must get my coffee now...........
So how is it under way when the sails are down and I don’t see a tug? Is there a motor retro fitted to it some how?
thanks for the link...but my dial-up and YouTube “aren’t on speaking terms”!
And for the forum, I mispoke.
The great tour of Boston is The Freedom Trail. It covers a lot of
history and can be done in about 1/2 of a day. I covered most of it
on foot/public transit even though jet-lagged after a flight from
the West Coast.

The glory of this ships past is inspiring. I’d love to see in person. I remember when it was on the news for it’s short sail. Old ships like it have magic.. thanks for reminding us of it.
If you look at the video, you can see a tug on the starboard side aft.
Hi Hazcat, there’s a tug at her stern believe it or not. Usually it ruins some photos but not too bad this time around, too bad the lamp post was in the way.
Also - no motor.
I'm of an age that I can remember having to memorize "Old Ironsides"..whereas today's students in Great Britain aren't even taught who Winston Churchill was..(sigh)
Yep saw it (tug) in the beginning but lost sight of it it the smoke during the come about so I thought it was gone.
I’d love to see her under sail!
I saw her under sail back in 2000 when they sailed her up to Marblehead. Fantastic.
Sparky, do you think Castle Island is the best place for viewing these days? I used to be able to climb a fence down by the old design center when the pier was abandoned. It was perfect viewing but you can’t do that anymore.
A firgate without sails is a froggin shame.
The captain of the USS Constitution was relieved of command several months ago. I never saw a clear explanation why. Did the story of her career ending dismissal ever come out ?
“Old ships like it have magic”
For sure!
For those in the general area, next weekend on July 22nd, the Mayflower II sets sail in Plymouth Harbor in celebration of her 50th birthday.
Hi N.V.A,
Here’s some stills of Constitution under partial sail that I took a while back:

No problem VOA, I didn’t catch the Patriot Trail over the Freedom Trail, can’t have Freedom without Patriots, imo.
Hi Ken, Churchill was an Ironsides himself, what a great leader!
