Mark Malloch Brown hadn't even ordered his ermine before he became the most contentious appointment to Gordon Brown's Government of all the talents.

While the aid agencies and liberals were still toasting the arrival of "Saint Mark" to Whitehall, the neo-cons on both sides of the Atlantic were throwing darts at photographs of their devil.

The former deputy secretary general to the UN divides opinion between those who see him as the great hope for Africa and a principled opponent of the war in Iraq, and those who believe that he is an anti-American egotist who defended Kofi Annan over the oil-for-food scandal.

Irwin Stelzer, Rupert Murdoch's right-hand man, called his appointment, "appalling".

Not to be grim, but to be realistic, I think that the British government will be forced back into the "American embrace" by our common foes. And the left's US contingent will be quieted for a while, too; that is the way it always plays out -- the aggressor will push until something somewhere causes the tolerant host to assert its own interest.

He’s nothing but another globalist UN hack, but he’s not the worst of them, and he’s not in charge of things. We’ve gotten used to dealing with Blair, and Gordon Brown doesn’t seem that bad, but they’re still Labour. Question is if he will sacrifice all that dough for a place in the government, or will Soros find a way to compensate for his economic loss when he has to resign from the hedge fund?

Thanks for that link, SB. As a non-financial type, I am not clear on what a “hedge fund” is. Is it a pool of money that arbitrages (trades identical securities or currencies on different markets with different prices and makes money of the usually small differential) financial instruments that change in value as a result of British policy?

If that is so, and heck, I eye-ball my bank balances — so what do I know, but wouldn’t you be better resigning completely from that job first?

We are one of the only countries that can go it alone to defend our intrests. Let them backbite us all day. One day soon when the UK has lost its sovereignty to the EU and russia,china,and the muslims are threating their interests(the EU is powerless and weak). They will then realize their mistake(well probably not) on who is their real ally and brother.
