There’s actually a seventh nation mentioned by Colden?? IIRC. But I’d have to consult my library to put a name to it.
Are you thinking of the Canadian Seven nations? They were also Iroquois though not as well known.
I found an old map by Colden in one of my “rare books” and at the bottom, he names the 7th tribe. I’m trying to remember where I put the map. It was an unusual map as it actually shows the carrying places in NY. I’ll find it and get back.
He introduces this theory (which, I’ll admit, I’d never heard of before) in the book’s very first chapter.
He not only paints a very benign and noble picture of the Iroquois nation, but castigates several “conservative” commentators for attacking this line of PC thought, thereby showing his true ideological slant right from the very beginning.
This view does not jibe with what’s to be found in Murray Rothbard’s generally excellent “Conceived In Liberty” 4-volume set, which I consider a definitive source. (Like all of Rothbard’s work, this series is the functional definition of “heavyweight scholarship”, and I recommend it without equivocation.)
It’s generally appalling what’s “taught” in schools today, but of more import (at least from my point of view) is the fact that the Left is manufacturing so much of this “scholarly work” on such a broad front that it’s only apparent function can be to assist in giving legitimacy to the PC revisionism that so infects our landscape today.
I’m truly glad forums like this exist, so that these intellectual cretins can now be held digitally responsible for what they are trying to foist on us and, more importantly, our children.
At least, that’s the way I see it!
