Dallas-based chain Value Giant announced Thursday that their retail stores will begin accepting Mexican pesos as payment, according to a press release.
The Value Giant store at Southwest Center Mall will be hosting a promotional event on Saturday to introduce the new policy.
Value Giant is a regional discount retailer offering groceries, clothes, electronics and general merchandise.
In January, another Dallas-based business, Pizza Patron, created controversy with its announcement that it would accept the Mexican currency.
Pizza Patron has reported increased profits since the decision was made.
What in the HELL. Is burning these places down as a sign of protest legal!?
I'm planning on opening a savings account in Euros as a hedge against fluctuations in the dollar.
Who cares what they accept for money? If they want to accept Cracker Jack prizes for payment, they should be free to do so.
Pizza Patron profits have skyrocketed because they give the illegals a horrible exchange rate on their pesos. If the idiots had any sense, they would exchange their pesos at a bank where they would get the current full value for them.
It is only a publicity stunt to get more business, IMO.
Pisses us all off, but otherwise has no effect on anything.
Pisses us all off...
I don't know why it should.
I really wonder if this is really beneficial to the company in any other area than advertisement. Have never seen an employer here pay in pesos.
So, is it illegal to pass off counterfeit pesos in the United States?
“What in the HELL. Is burning these places down as a sign of protest legal!?’
No, it’s arson, the sign of a criminal and/or deranged mind. Arson is illegal, unlike accepting any currency you bloody well please when in the course of running you own business.
What other liberties does the exteme right want to toss out, I wonder?
Have things really changed that much in the last twenty years? Back then, Redbird’s customers were heavily made up of folks in Duncanville, a mostly white suburb that can’t have gone black that fast.
For decades, businesses in Buffalo have accepted Canadian money (sometimes at par even when it wasn't) just to get more business. There's nothing illegal or even faintly immoral about taking foreign money.
I was the supervisor at the Redbird workforce center last year and almost all the clients and staff were black. Town East Mall in Mesquite, on the other hand, might as well be in Mexico City...

I’d like to toss out the liberty to raise taxes on me for everything I do whenever another pet project needs funding.
I’d like to toss out the liberty of illegal immigrants to have any support of any kind in this country, including language, currency, media, et al.
I’d like to toss out the liberty of any and all aspects of this country to continue the slide toward a complete and total lack of sovereignty be it via language, currency, media, et al.
And most of all, I’d like to toss out the liberty of middle of the road, moderate, RINO bastards to keep pretending to be conservative and pro-America when supporting the destruction of this country via premise that it’s all for the greater good, capitalism, the children!, God and Country or any of the other communist/socialist/Stalinist BS that’s being bandied about nowadays in ways that won’t even raise an eyebrow till it’s too late.
I’m sick and tired of it.
The liberals had this nifty little bumper sticker a couple years ago that said “If you’re not disgusted you’re not paying attention” (or something along those lines). Regardless of its direction the message applies very well to our current situation and it’s well past time for it to stop.
Yep, lots of countries take dollars. This store taking pesos is just a new profit center for them as they probably make an extra 5-10% on the exchange.
Remember, at one time we had a universal currency, known as gold. Getting nationalistic over money is strictly for the small bus set IMHO.
I think if I lived near one of their stores, my wife and I would go there, take two shopping carts, walk around and load them up with everything from small expensive electronics and expensive cuts of meat, to several dozen canned goods and clothes. Then, go to the check out and have both carts rung up. When the cashier gives the total, reach for my wallet and look into it and say “Awwwwwww, all I have is U.S. cash and my credit cards. NO PESOS. I’m sorry, but I guess I’ll just have to leave this all here.” Then, walk out and let them void the sale, remove everything from the bags and put it all back on the shelves.
You and your wife really have nothing better to do? Sad.
