Fred D. Thompson has decided not to formally announce his presidential campaign this month and may wait until September to end the suspense for Republicans, according to several sources in his campaign.
When the former senator from Tennessee first acknowledged his interest in the White House in early June, campaign advisers indicated he was likely to wait until early July to announce, after spending a month raising money and putting together an organization.

I would rather have a master leader for president, than a master politician.
Will you switch from Romney to Thompson if he does? :)
drum roll please....
(sound of crickets chirping - crowd leans forward)
drum roll please...
(crowd looks around, a few coughs are heard)
drum roll please...
(zzzzzzzzz - crowd goes back to sleep)
Well at least Fred’s not being accused of being “too slick”.
This is getting ridiculous. I am tired of Fred playing these games with us. What is he afraid of? Is he afraid of the debates or the media. We need a president who is not a chicken s**t. This starting to turn into an “Elvis sighting” situation.
Next: Fred to announce in January 2008.
How long can he keep stringing us along?
You lead the nation via politics. Witness the historic poll low poll numbers of the one [W]ho does not understand politics and slew what was left of his legacy over amnesty for illegals.
The presidents most admired were master politicians, and a deep understanding of politics is the stuff of leadership. To wit:
“I paid for this microphone” R. Regan
Well, is the answer dissimulationââI am running but I wonât declare.â Or is it simulationââI am not running just whipping up interest to see if I could run and boost my media saleability..â
Yeah.
No wonder he's dead last in the polls.
:o)
I like the fact he’s doing this ‘his way’ and not as the MSM and the DNC and the RNC demand it be done.
Aides brushed aside the idea that the delay in an announcement is the result of disappointment in fundraising. As much as I like Fred, and I do, I'm not donating until after he announces.
I NEVER sell out...except for money and fame.
Is there a deadline ??
Sooner or later, there will be, as individual states will require candidates to be on the ballot some XX days before the primary/caucus.
A leader takes the aspirations of the people and turns that into action. It takes politics to know what these aspirations are, and build a consensus to “get er done” The people want a fence and locked down border; free speech in campaigns as in the 1st Amend; spending under control, the IRS abolished, and the enemy wiped out. Hint: (A real leader does not require a political adviser on the payroll. He needs to be smarter at politics than anybody he can hire.)
Every date that has been put out there has been from everyone except his team. Press, us, other campaigns etc.
As far as those “impatient” with his announcement, give it a rest, his people have stated several times they want everything in place to do their best to meet the high expectations once he is “official”. That takes time.
No, not really a deadline... but definitely limited attention span. In America it's about 5 nanoseconds before reruns get stale. I expect Fred Thompson knows this.
“This is becoming almost comical.”
But irritating and tedious.
Maybe it’s a long-term rope-the-dopes and in October Thompson will announce, ‘for personal reasons’, that he won’t run. Then we’re supposed to settle for Rudy. Afterall - he’s better than Hillary/Obama.
The man has time and he is suing it for maximum effect. He will announce when it’s time for him, not everyone else.
