A month or so old, but it appears no one picked this up, or at least I couldn't find it with Search. And don't remember an xcamel ping.

The author spends a *lot* of time hyping the "consensus" view, after reporting this professor's view.

Key quotes:

"There is a lot of money to be made in this. If you want to be an eminent scientist you have to have a lot of grad students and a lot of grants. You can't get grants unless you say, 'Oh global warming, yes, yes, carbon dioxide ... "

"There is very little truth to what is being said and an awful lot of religion. It's almost a religion. Where you have to believe in anthropogenic (or man-made) global warming or else you are nuts."

My question - if the earth is warming on it’s own, should humans do anything to stop such a natural cycle?

That caught my attention as well, because (I kid you not) an acquaintance who was a Boston University grad student in one of climate sciences said exactly that same thing to me more than 20 years ago.

Reid Bryson, known as the father of scientific climatology, considers global warming a bunch of hooey. The UW-Madison professor emeritus, who stands against the scientific consensus on this issue, is referred to as a global warming skeptic. But he is not skeptical that global warming exists, he is just doubtful that humans are the cause of it. There is no question the earth has been warming. It is coming out of the "Little Ice Age," he said in an interview this week. "However, there is no credible evidence that it is due to mankind and carbon dioxide. We've been coming...

The UW-Madison professor emeritus, who stands against the scientific consensus on this issue...

The only consensus I've heard about on this issue is the one that the media has.

Some enterprising "journalist" could with a little research find an equal number of chicken little 'scientists' and those who think like Prof. Bryson.

My favorite line:
McKinley added that the evidence is overwhelming that global warming is being caused by humans, even if there isn't ironclad proof.

I’n not sure I understand what you’re trying to say. Is it that Bryson has his head in the sand?

The rate of change is consistent with human activity, she said. That is why so many major scientific societies are concerned about global warming, she added.

Right. It couldn't have anything to do with grant money.

Anyway, see tagline.

Scientists are loath to contradict politicians. Since the politicians have their pet theory, they expect scientists to confirm it regardless of the actual evidence. Its a mutually corrupting process at work. And it destroys the impartial nature of scientific research. Who can trust a scientist's findings when they're tinged with an ideological agenda? The politicians claim they know for sure what the weather's going to be like in 50 years time. The meterologists can't tell you with 100% confidence tomorrow's weather prediction.

My question - if the earth is warming on it’s own, should humans do anything to stop such a natural cycle?

Another question along the same lines: If warming is happening, regardless of the cause, why is it a bad thing? We know that the Medieval Warming Period was a time of great prosperity and bounty. If we are warming now, and I have yet to be convinced that this is indeed occurring, why should we be afraid of it, unless that fear is the driving force behind folks like the "Profit Owl Gore"....

Living under the thumb of nuts like the Profit Owl Gore, now that is something to be feared!

I was listening to BBC radio yesterday, which is a major pimp for global warmingists, as they were speaking of the well preserved mammoth found recently. When talking of the demise of the mammoth, the presenter spoke of climate change being an issue for them, something the interviewee said could have been a factor. Yet, unsurprisingly, this particularly presenter who very much is a proponent of global warming issues, chose not to connect the dots and ask, "So climate change has been going on for far longer than man has been industrial?"

My e-mail to them asked why Algore was so late in preventing the tragic extinction of the mammoth.

The conflict between Dr. Bryson’s skepticism about global warming and Prof. McKinney’s total acceptance of man made global warming reminds me of the meeting between Galileo and a representative of the Inquisition. The Inquisitor argued that the earth couldn't’t possibly be moving through space as he could not feel it move...Galileo responded..yet it moves.

UP AGAINST HIS STUDENTS' STUDENTS: Reporters will often call the meteorology building seeking the opinion of a scientist and some beginning graduate student will pick up the phone and say he or she is a meteorologist, Bryson said. "And that goes in the paper as 'scientists say ...' "

and then, later in the same article ...

NOT SO FAST, SAY SCIENTISTS...

Gotta love unbiased reporting.

Sometimes posters take liberty in editing the titles a little. Best to search on a few select words. I found those articles by searching on "hooey".

Personally, I don't mind seeing old articles reposted every now and then. I linked the old articles here in case you or anyone else would like to read some of the other comments and material added to the other threads.

And often, different papers run the same article with different headlines.
